A Telephone Call from Mr. Bell

Ring!  Ring!  Ring!

Mr. Bell called today.  Once I convinced him I was not Mr. Watson, that I most certainly could not "come here" to the year 1876 and that I wasn't sure if I should be flattered or flustered at his confession of "I want you", he told me to share these words with you all and for you to heed them for your writing and reading spirits, hearts and minds:

"When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us."
~ Alexander Graham Bell

  6. Yes, Alex, I found them very thought-provoking.

LOL @ Barbara. You are a hoot and riot!

Angela, I practically guffawed and startled a few coworkers. I love Barbara's comment.

You know, E.R., sometimes I really need to remind myself to move my focus off of the closed door so I can give myself a chance to see the door that opens.

Thanks Raelyn. I am glad to share it with all my wonderful blogosphere buds.

Isn't it a wonderful prompt for the mind, Peggy?

  7. Well, that's an alternate historical romance you ought to write... Bell madly in love with you and building the device to contact you in the future...

No, seriously... If you're not going to write it, let me know and I will!

  9. Bell made a pretty good statement that I could agree with Shelley and LD.

CNHolmberg, you are SUCH the writer! That's an excellent idea. I'm not quite the historical gal so if you want it, run with it :-)

    Sangu - Thanks so much.

  12. It's a truth I've had to bear in mind at times, especially since I find myself lingering at that closed door when I shouldn't.

  13. I have to laugh because every time I hear that saying, I'm quietly bastardizing it to read:

When one door closes, I find the closest rock and bash open a window, then open the damn door myself.

    Apologies to Mr. Bell.

  14. LOL! Well, like there's more than one way to skin a cat, there's more than one way to deal with closed doors and the poor window closes by :-)

  15. Fantastic quote. It happens to me all the time--despite my doubt and negativity--but I need to be reminded of these open doors.

  18. The trick is paying attention! I think so many times I bypass open doors due to sheer oblivion. Great reminder, thanks!
