Indies Forward: Cell War Notebooks

*Don't forget to take advantage of the YA Hop Giveaway still going on for your chance to win a paperback edition of Katana by Cole Gibsen!*

Some life stories deserve a spotlight. A memoir that must be shared.

Sometimes, the memoir makes it...though the author does not.

With all the occasional whining and sometime-y fits I have about the difficulties of marketing my novel and trying to get readers all over the world to buy it, well, I'm reminded that I should attend this process with more of the #bepositive attitude that tends to keep me positive-of-mind through the day.

Julie Forward DeMay would probably want to do that as well, but she can't. She battled cervical cancer and blogged about her incredible, painful and heartbreaking experience. Although many battles with cancer are won, Julie's was not. You can read her inspiring and honest story in Cell War Notebooks.
Buy here at Amazon (paperback only available)
Description: Beautifully written, heartwarming, and passionate, Cell War Notebooks draws us into a world many are familiar with. Recorded as a blog during a period of seven months, Cell War Notebooks is both a sensitive and brutally honest account of life with cancer. An essential read for people coping with the disease, and for the family and friends who support and love them, it's the deeply motivating story of a battle Julie Forward DeMay is determined to win. One of few memoirs written about cervical cancer, her inspirational journey was published for many reasons, one of which was to create a general knowledge of the seriousness of high-risk HPV. Sadly, parents, school administrators, and even some health care professionals are unaware of the critical impact of the virus, and have therefore been slow to educate teens about the preventative vaccine, and the importance of annual Pap tests.

Note: proceeds for the sale of the novel will go to Julie's nine-year old daughter, Luka.

You can also be a part at Facebook.

I'd dive into a discussion of how I overcame some particular obstacle in my life, however, I'd prefer to open the comments to those stopping by. We've all gone through some things, and details are not necessary, but perhaps you have a brief snippet to share that can be inspiring to someone skimming the comments.

If you'd like to do something to spread the word, feel free to share this blog post at your FB page or do a Tweet to include the #indiesforward or #cellwarnotebooks hashtag.

Where Do We Go From Here?

*Don't forget to take advantage of the YA Hop Giveaway still going on for your chance to win a paperback edition of Katana by Cole Gibsen!*

I want to call your attention to two new tabs on my blog:

Untethered Realms and NEO Chronicles.

I've mentioned before that I'm obviously not my own best PR team. I tell myself that I have every right and reason to shout from the mountain tops about Neverlove. There are loads of people who can identify with the book and it has several 4 and 5 star reviews from readers familiar with who I am and readers who don't know me from Eve. But tooting my horn causes a cold sweat to break out on my forehead. So I'm working with a couple of groups to work on that, mainly by tooting other authors' horns while they toot mine. That's where Untethered Realms comes in.

A group of us have gathered together to help promote each other's books. I love using my blog to showcase other authors anyway so I'm excited about being a part of this group. Please click on the tab and discover the members. Please make sure to stop by our FB page and "Like" us as well.

NOW...NEO Chronicles.  That is a special project that I'm eager to share. You can click on NEO Chronicles but it's so much more fun to have it right here for you to check it out:

NEO Chronicles: Case Files Revealed

A perfect storm is brewing:
* Jealous goddesses
* Vengeful gods
* Hell with a new master, more craving
* Dark intentions of the living and undead

All ready to pour chaos upon unwitting humans.

Along the vein of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, members of NEO must come together if mankind is to be saved from the evil intentions of others and from itself.

NEO – Network of Extraordinaires and Otherworldlies:

Those who answered the call from NEO play their part in maintaining balance in our ever-changing times. With power-hungry malcontents, jealous gods, and even those with misguided good intentions, the fate of our world has oft been held in the hands of unsung heroes such as those that are members of NEO.

But before NEO, these heroes had lives, loves, issues and interests that did not involve saving mankind.

NEO Chronicles are case files revealing a hint of the lives lived before and at the turning points where NEO joined into their life's path. Told in novellas and short stories, readers will learn of NEO's imperfect heroes willing to risk it all to keep mankind from all out destruction.

COMING SOON: Aimee and Luca, in FRAILTIES OF THE BOND, where vengeance leads one young man to the last things he ever expected: love and a new purpose in life

It's serial reading fun in store. If I had the talent, I'd come up with some kind of, what is it called, ummm....picture-thingie that represents NEO. Gosh, where is my vocabulary when I need it? lol!!!

Anywho, I wanted to ask, what are your thoughts - as readers and writers - on tooting horns and serial writing?

We're YA Hoppin' Now :-)

Most of you who've been to my blog already know I wrote and self-published an upper YA novel with paranormal, action and romantic elements woven throughout. Neverlove is my YA debut and yep, I'm very proud of this story, encourage any and all to give it a try. It's a story of overcoming. Boy do Abby and Basil have some things to overcome.

For this hop, hosted by I am a Reader, Not a Writer and Booklove101, I'd like to spotlight another YA novel I really enjoyed reading:
Katana by Cole Gibsen

Kill Bill meets Buffy in this supernatural samurai tale
Rileigh Martin would love to believe that adrenaline gave her the uncanny courage and strength to fend off three muggers. But it doesn't explain her dreams of fifteenth century Japan, the incredible fighting skills she suddenly possesses, or the strange voice giving her battle tips and danger warnings. While worrying that she's going crazy (always a reputation ruiner), Rileigh gets a visit from Kim, a handsome martial arts instructor, who tells Rileigh she's harboring the spirit of a five-hundred-year-old samurai warrior.
Relentlessly attacked by ninjas, Rileigh has no choice but to master the katana--a deadly Japanese sword that's also the key to her past. As the spirit grows stronger and her feelings for Kim intensify, Rileigh is torn between continuing as the girl she's always been and embracing the warrior inside her.

***kick-butt heroine, HOT martial arts hero, and ninjas - LURVED IT!!***

Now I want to share this samurai-spirit-drama with one lucky winner (US Only). Enter this contest for your chance to win and make sure to stop by other blogs participating in the giveaway hop :-)

Celebrating Law Breaking

History has been kinder to Martin Luther King than actual life was for him, his family and for those participating in the Civil Rights Movement.

*Pressure of leading a movement from the grassroots up
*Death threats
*Lots of death threats
*Deaths of others participating in the movement weighing on his shoulders
*Choosing a non-violent route when a violent route was quite popular

Yeah, sounds like fun, huh?
It's not that every moment of the movement was "Woe is me". But it was a difficult time when tradition and laws stated African-Americans were lucky to no longer be considered constitutionally 3/5th of a person. That it would be best to simply accept 2nd class citizenship because "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

As a benefactor of those who broke the laws, sat at lunch counters to stare down pure human hatred, faced biting dogs and power hose spraying police officers, and sweat to show the ugly face of legalized inequality...

Thank you.

I Want to Hug It and Squeeze It and Oh, Yeah, You May Want to See It

I am a PUFF girl through and through. Love my paranormal and urban fantasy. But as those of you who've been around my blog know, I love the sword and sorcery, dragons, elves (I HEART YOU LEGOLAS!!!), dwarves kind of escape that epic fantasy provides.

Author Heather McCorkle is set to release an epic fantasy and I'm thrilled to be a part of the cover reveal for THE DRAGON EMPIRE. Without further ado, here it is:
Cover designed by CP Design

The Dragon Empire by Heather McCorkle -- February 2013 / Compass Press
On Yacrana, dragons stand at the top of the evolutionary ladder instead of humans. Such an advanced species is not without its issues though.

There's trouble in the Dragon Empire, the kind that could start a war between dragons and the races of people. Hidden factions of dragons believe they should rule the lesser races, not simply stand aside and allow them to develop as they will. Having lived so long in peace, the Emperors turn a blind eye, many oblivious that such attitudes even exist.
Despite being only an architect class, emerald dragon, Grendar is willing to risk banishment and death to stop that which his rulers refuse to see. The hope of peace lies not within the scaled breast of a dragon however, but within the hands of a group of people. But if the hidden factions have their way, these people won’t live to fulfill such a destiny. With a reluctant seer at his side, Grendar must leave his precious Empire for the outside world to save those that will one day save his kind.

Prepare to enjoy this dragon adventure when it's released by adding it to your Goodreads TBR list here.

Friday Spotlight: Adversarius

Today's Friday spotlight is Shadow of the Rose: Adversarius...released by Hellfire Publishing.

Two kingdoms, two goals.
The king of Relavia is determined to wipe out his warring neighbors in Paridzule, a worthy adversary for over five hundred years. News of an arranged marriage between his son and the daughter of his lifelong enemy has fueled the temper of Relavia's tyrannical king. What he doesn't realize is the true measure of his son's honor and how far he is willing to go to gain peace.

Available at Amazon and Smashwords. Hey, make sure to check it out and "Like"/Follow wherever possible.

Enjoy an excerpt:
Nightshadow sat up in her room inside the massive mansion Nikkolani had taken over when he first came to Moordigan. This home had been abandoned, overrun with vines and weeds, matching the state of the rest of the city when Nikkolani first arrived. He fixed it up to suit his tastes and used more of the king's coin rather than his own. When he built up his D'raetus Pastiniir, he rewarded his finest assassins handsomely and in different ways based on performance. Being the best at her profession gave her some perks, but it also gave her some heartaches. She worked up the courage to speak to Nikkolani at some length during the night about Farrehn, who now lay in the Healer's Guild because of her. The discussion had been very heated, so much so that she decided to wait to tell him about Sorcha and the agreement she had made.

Dressed in loose leggings and a tunic belted at the waist, Nightshadow now sat before the window, absentmindedly braiding her hair. When she reached the end, she tied it off and stood just as a soft knock landed on her door. She slowly crossed the room, not expecting anyone, and opened the door.

“Nikkolani would like to speak with you,” a young girl told her.

“I'll be down in a moment.”

“I'll let him know.” Nightshadow shut the door and went over to her bed to pull on her boots. As she left her room, she locked the door. Living with thieves, it would be a matter of moments before they picked the lock but she certainly was not going to make it easy for them.

Learn about the author:
M. L. Chesley is an Alaska based author, online blogger and MMORPG junkie. She has been writing fantasy for several years. Between writing, work and family she barely has time for much gaming, but some days, raids take precedence over all. If you would like to learn more about her world, created in this book, go to You can also follow her blog at, Twitter: @MLChesley and Facebook.

Now go forth into the first weekend of 2013 and doooooo...what are YOUR plans? If things aren't set in stone, Adversarius sounds like a great fantasy read to enjoy :-)

FROM THE ASHES, Cover Reveal

It's more than a pleasure, it is a privilege to share in the cover reveal for a YA novel BY a YA in she's a talented and brilliant young adult. Without further ado, here's FROM THE ASHES by Jessica McKendry:
I'm not sure how it all went wrong.

The concept was simple.

The Trials were made to test us. They were made to challenge our strengths; our bravery.

We were supposed to come out better.

Winning the Trials would make us Superior citizens.

It would bring us honor and demonstrate our loyalty to the Imperial Alliance. I knew exactly what I wanted.

Until I met him.

There was something about him. Something dark. If only I had known the danger it would put us in.

I thought I knew the risks.

But I never imagined the price we'd pay.

***An insightful look at the good and bad that exist within us, McKendry's debut is a high-octane adventure that pushes the imagination to the limit as it lays bare the nature of self-reliance, self-confidence, and teamwork. Playing with the concepts of dark and light and how they affect our lives in multiple forms, her novel is a complex coming of age story that encapsulates the heroine's journey from student to leader. A dark tale of love and revenge, From the Ashes is a powerful reminder to think for yourself instead of blindly following what you've been taught to believe.***

I'm very excited to see Jessica take this step. Look for it in February 2013 :-) Woot!! Isn't the cover beautiful?!?!?!?!

An Interview with a Cleanser

Hey Friends,
Follow me over to Beauty and Books where Abby, from Neverlove, dishes on working with moi *blush*

Today is usually IWSG day, but for all the insecurities I feel, I've wrapped myself in a desire to begin the year with a Be Positive angle, accepting my insecurities and doubts for the distractions they are and ready to move around them so they don't become obstacles in my way.

Nuff said.

Have a blessed day!
