It's time for another episode of Sekrit Project Nuggets.

In our last post, you learned that the MC is Caesimilia 'Case' Mollands, a twelve-year-old girl with a penchant for high-tops and basketball along with a serious crush on Justin Timberlake.

Here's a new nugget: I originally started off with the idea of this being a series involving orphans. But I've got a few stories I've written where the parents are nowhere to be seen because they're dead or missing. Knowing me, I'll be writing more stories with "absent" parents because, well, I can't seem to help myself lol!

For this story, I wanted the MC to have loving parents who were around. Even though her adventure takes her from them, they aren't missing or dead. It felt kind of nice writing this story, knowing that her parents would be there for Case...IF she ever gets back home. getting back home, that's a nugget for another post :-)

Until next time *smiles*

Author: Laura Diamond
Publication Date: July 12, 2013
Genre: YA dystopian

Seventeen-year-old Justin's anemic blood is a blessing. Or a curse. It all depends on who you ask.

To most of the immortal Vie, his blood is a scourge: untouchable and useless. To some Vie, his blood is a drug. To Justin, it’s something that gets him in a lot of trouble. Being poisoned by a Vie is just one example. His sister getting kidnapped is another. Whether it’s being coerced by a deluded cult leader, or negotiating with Alex—an Vie scientist addicted to Anemie blood—Justin struggles to keep every mutated drop of blood he’s got.

His fight for survival gets more complicated when he meets Alex’s slave, Cara. Despite coming from different worlds, they’re both prisoners, at risk of being drained by a hungry Vie any moment. When she risks her own neck to help Justin find his sister, he's left with a terrifying choice.

Saving what's left of humanity.
Saving his sister. Saving the girl he loves.
Or sticking a stake in Alex’s chest.
Justin can't decide which option will get him killed first.

Get Your Thrill on with The Thrill of it All Blogfest

I'm so thrilled (tehe!) to participate in this blogfest. It's been a while since I've been in one and I've missed the fun a bit.
So, without further ado, what's this all about?
To celebrate Heather and Tara reaching the end a long, tiring journey to be published - and embarking on the next long, tiring journey of marketing and writing more, everyone's invited to participate in...

from  Love to Sci Fi ...
The Thrill of it All blogfest!

Thrills come in all genres. Heather has some intense love scene thrills in MAGUIRE'S CORNER. Tara has some cool chase scene thrills in POP TRAVEL. And some people do thrilling things, like mountain climbing.

Today is the day to share a big thrill to be entered into The Thrill of it All blogfest contest! Heather and Tara will judge the biggest thrills and give out some thrilling prizes. Entries may be real or fiction. All that is asked is to keep them to a paragraph or so.

Here's Tara's example:
In POP TRAVEL, everyone loves to pop. Not Cooper. Though he won't admit it, Cooper was afraid of it even before he found evidence of a disintegrated traveler. Now he's terrified and he must face his fear, popping all over the world to escape those trying to keep him from exposing pop travel's deadly flaw.

1) A copy of MAGUIRE'S CORNER, ebook
2) An ARC copy of POP TRAVEL
3) A $20 Amazon GC
4) A banner or caricature by moi (or substitute if the winner has another need)

Okay, so here is my submission for the soon-to-come THEY ALL FALL DOWN:
Basil Hines thought he had everything he needed, but he didn't have peace of mind. A short trip to secretly mourn the loss of his father spins his world out of control when his memories are tampered with. Unable to accept the illusion of his new life, Basil must face his demons, shadow jumping to hell and back, to set the pieces of his life right, or die trying.

Edited: I think I read something wrong and should have added an excerpt. This may be a tad late for the contest but I wanted to add a brief excerpt:

“Tegra, I swear you’re going to love visiting San Diego. The post cards I sent you just fall flat. I mean the ocean, the sun –the whole everything!” Abby’s voice carried into the Bluetooth comfortably situated upon her ear.
A breeze swirled by, sweeping her sunflower sundress into a Marilyn-Monroe-over-the-air-vent flare. Heat scaled her neck. A few guys seated outside at a café held their forks midair openly gawking. One even whistled. Distracted, she hadn’t noticed a bike courier barreling around the corner, right into her path.
Wide green eyes met hers. Too late for the cyclist to swerve. Too sudden for Abby to react.
A hand gripped her wrist and yanked her from the pending collision. She sucked in a breath, wrapped in a one arm grip around her waist. She lifted her hand to her rescuer’s chest. His wet, bare chest.
The cyclist hollered an apology over his shoulder, hurried and bound to his route.
Abby wriggled her hips, slipping free of the man’s hold. “Tha – thank you, uh…wow, that was too close.”

More Life to the High Potentials

*As a note, don't forget to join me tomorrow at 2 pm CST/CDT/whatever (lol!) for The Good, The Bad, and The Quirky Q&A party*

It is my pleasure to be a part of an exciting reveal today: the book trailer for The Debt Collector

What's your life worth on the open market?
A debt collector can tell you precisely.

Lirium plays the part of the grim reaper well, with his dark trenchcoat, jackboots, and the black marks on his soul that every debt collector carries. He's just in it for his cut, the ten percent of the life energy he collects before he transfers it on to the high potentials, the people who will make the world a better place with their brains, their work, and their lives. That hit of life energy, a bottle of vodka, and a visit from one of Madam Anastazja's sex workers keep him alive, stable, and mostly sane... until he collects again. But when his recovery ritual is disrupted by a sex worker who isn't what she seems, he has to choose between doing an illegal hit for a girl whose story has more holes than his soul or facing the bottle alone--a dark pit he's not sure he'll be able to climb out of again.

And without further ado. here's the trailer for your viewing pleasure!

Debt Collector by Susan Kaye Quinn
Series: Debt Collector Serial (currently has 8 released installments)
Genre: NA Future-Noir
*For more about the Debt Collector serial, see*

And I have to tell you, I'm drooling behind these fabulous book covers for each installment:
I heart them all!!

And if you don't know about Susan yet (Where have you been????) here's a little something about her.
Susan Kaye Quinn grew up in California, where she wrote snippets of stories and passed them to her friends during class. Her teachers pretended not to notice and only confiscated her stories a couple times.

Susan left writing behind to pursue a bunch of engineering degrees, but she was drawn back to writing by an irresistible urge to share her stories with her niece, her kids, and all the wonderful friends she’s met along the way.

She doesn’t have to sneak her notes anymore, which is too bad.

Susan writes from the Chicago suburbs with her three boys, two cats, and one husband. Which, it turns out, is exactly as a much as she can handle.

As if basking in the beauty of that cool trailer wasn't enough, Susan's doing a giveaway. Please make sure to enter for your chance to win.

My Case of Fangirling *Squee*

My procrastination has not been without some benefit. One being that instead of writing when I should be writing, I did some reading. One thing I loved sticking my nose into was the Debt Collector series by the one and only Susan Kaye Quinn.

Can I just fangirl for a moment?

I love Susan's stories! From the Mindjack trilogy to the Debt Collector series, I'm just in awe.

Amazon US
About Delirium
Delirium - EPISODE 1 of the Debt Collector serial. Contains mature content and themes. For young-adult-appropriate thrills, see Susan's bestselling Mindjack series.

Delirium is approximately 12,000 words or 48 pages, and is one of nine episodes in the first season of The Debt Collector serial. This dark and gritty future-noir is about a world where your life-worth is tabulated on the open market and going into debt risks a lot more than your credit rating.

My review:
Delirium delivered. I appreciate the dark and twisted and this gave it to me with a noir/sci-fi flair. Lirium is perfectly flawed and the world Susan creates is one you'd almost want to be in if it weren't scary to consider how much one's life would be worth on an open market *shudder*

I can't wait to read the next episode, which I have in my kindle library. Now back to writing so I can get to the next installment.

Is there a great series you've discovered? Please feel free to tell us about it in the comments.

Interview Direct by YOU

Hey peeps!

I mentioned this on my  FB author page last night but I wanted to bring it up here.

Would you be interested in asking your questions directly to me? Have you read Neverlove, Frailties of the Bond and/or Atone and have a question or three you'd like to ask about them? Are you curious about why I call Wild Cherry Pepsi my crack?

Well, I'm open to inquiries.

I'd like to set up a Facebook event where you ask me a few of the things you're curious about. For instance, some of you may not know that the Masquerade theme you see here actually has basis in a WiP that I completed.

Because I'm a bit paranoid about the "contest at FB as an author" thing, I was thinking of setting up a Rafflecopter on my blog just for the Q&A session so attendees can enter and win either a $10 or $15 Amazon gift card.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments section :-)

Have a great weekend everyone!

It's a NO BRAINER Hijacking! YAY!

Darcy Walker is at it again in No Brainer, by AJ Lape.

Two weeks before junior year, Darcy hops a plane to Orlando for a little R&R with her best friend Dylan and his family. Fresh off the heels of solving three murders in Valley, you'd think she'd sit back and enjoy the vacation capital of the world … maybe if you're a noun. Darcy Walker, however, is nothing but verb.

Before her feet hit the Orlando soil, she's meddling in the disappearance of a five-year-old boy who vanished six months earlier.

With authorities still no closer to solving the case, Darcy is shanghaied by her impulsivity and runs headlong into that proverbial burning building, convinced she can bring him home.

She travels down a road that not only follows this missing child but branches off into the corrupt and sinister world of mob activity when she tampers in a case on which Dylan's detective grandfather is working.

After a near disastrous midnight meeting in a warehouse and a date with a mechanical bull, Darcy realizes she might've bitten off more than she can chew. Add the boiling flirtationship with her best friend and the appearance of his romantic rival, and she is in over her head.

Will she survive a life of flirting with death too easily? Or will her flirtationship with Dylan become the actual death of her instead?

For a girl with a habit of finding dead bodies, No Brainer gives Darcy Walker more of the same…surprising twists and turns…and running for her life.

Here are a few tasty hors d'ourves-via-words to whet your appetite :-) You're going love them because each one is a piece of the girl that can only be described as Darcy!

I didn’t understand this relentless need to unravel the mysteries in front of me. Regarding Cisco, perhaps it’s because I knew firsthand that paralyzing and debilitating pain when your nuclear family went away. Most days I successfully buried the grief, but on the days it resurrected itself, I realized the term “emotionally numb” signaled progress. Pain was a funny thing. The physical, you could heal from; the mental, didn’t always cooperate.

Cowboys had a big, black mechanical bull—a new attraction Dylan had heard about through his Orlando-based grapevine. Guys and girls took turns bucking to and fro like fools. It didn’t look particularly scary. In truth, it seemed rather fun until Elmer decided, “Buffy needs to take a ride.”
Holy. Bull. Gods.
I had no idea how to ride a freaking bull.
If you asked me how I’d come to sit on the bull, I’d say it was Divine Intervention because next thing I knew, I was sitting in a pit as a man in jeans and a cowboy hat flipped the “start” button. My hands sweat like a greasy pig as I gripped the reins and tentatively slid my boots inside the leather stirrups. At first, it was a piece of cake. The bull rocked slowly back and forth, but the moment I adjusted to the movement, the vibration began sending shock waves to my face. Vibrate. Pitch forward. Pulsate again. Pitch backwards. I flopped around like a fish out of water, but when the crowd erupted into cheers, my inner attention-getter threw her left arm in the air and YOLO’d it up.
Right on cue, Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy hit the airwaves, and the group grew even rowdier. I bucked. Rolled. Whipped my hair back and forth in a 360-degree circle. I looked like a freaking superstar. When I erroneously grinned at the operator, he took that as confirmation to give me the full rodeo treatment. Before I could scream “No,” he activated the buck-and-spin speed, and the shaking intensified. Starting at my butt bone, it traveled the length of my spine and stopped at the base of my chin, then unexpectedly dropped down to my girl parts. I moaned like a porn star—well, what I thought a porn star might sound like—but my guess was it was more like a wildebeest. My jean skirt rode up to the hoochie zone, and my Barely-Bs practically bounced up and hit me in the face.

Darcy Walker is also infamous for the things that just roll from her lips, like, "Nothing from my mouth was ever scripted; obviously, I needed a publicist."
This, "Dylan was crazy good looking, with a face that made angels weep and a body that burned nothing but nuclear. Lately, I’d tried not to notice his attributes, but when his mile-long legs were as lethally shaped and powerful as his, you couldn’t deny the male in front of you. Yup, I wanted to hug every inch of his godforsakenfreakingfine body."

As if Darcy isn't enough, here are a few things about AJ (author extraordinaire) to capture your attention.

Ten Things You Didn’t Know About AJ Lape
AKA - Ada Miracle Lape

1. I can dislocate my left shoulder on command.
2. I started running high school track when I was in the sixth grade.
3. I would’ve been a police officer or journalist if life didn’t land me where I am.

5. I had an academic scholarship.
6. I like to shoot 9mm guns (dying to shoot an Uzi) in my spare time…look out Target World, every once in a while you have to walk your inner hillbilly
7. I’m like Rain Man when it comes to fractions.
8. I used to write and record songs. I won Honorable Mentions in the John Lennon Song Writing Contest and Music City Song Festival.

No Georgie Porgie - ATONE

My Peeps!

I'm so happy to share this HOT NEW RELEASE for my most recent work, ATONE, a NEO Chronicles: Character Revealed novella.

Without further ado, here it is:
Thank you for the awesome cover, Heather McCorkle @ CP Design!!!
What harm can come from a kiss?

Caine Fordham knows the danger all too well.

As the Kill Circuit’s top lady-killer, business is good. Yet Caine knows the life of an assassin isn’t meant to last forever, just as love is impossible for him. Who could love a man with poison lacing his veins and a kiss that kills?

When Caine decides to take one last job, deal out one last kiss, he discovers there’s more to life than death, and more to love than pain.

BUY AT AMAZON US (ONLY 99 cents!!)

This is the second installment in my NEO Chronicles: Characters Revealed series. Available now at Amazon US and at other online outlets by Friday, it will make a nice slice of reading for a lunch break or for a quick read during the train/trolley/car pool work commute (ummm...if you're driving, No Reading While Driving lol!!)

Here's a little excerpt. You'll see there's a bit of a difference in the description of the character and the model for the cover, but the cover - as a whole - embodies the dark mystery that is Caine Fordham.

Caine stood up slowly, smirking to conceal how much her questions bothered him. Living a hundred years as a walking wasteland didn’t leave him many career options.

With a long, lean body, a sun-kissed tan (genetics, not from being outdoors) and square jawline, his targets often mistook him for a male model. “The brooding type,” is what he’d heard many times. If his chest, stomach and back didn’t resemble black lace from the poisons that called his body home, male model could work. He wore his black silky mane cut short at the nape. Longer curls in the front veiled his eyes, making him even more mysterious, or so women told him. A definite plus when luring his prey.

Bearing the kiss of death didn’t fit any job descriptions…with one exception.

And he had a spotless record with the Kill Circuit.

I'll admit, I do love a man with a kiss that makes me feel like I've died and gone to heaven...just not one that will do it literally lol!!!

With any story, word of mouth is essential. I would truly appreciate it if you could share about this Hot New Release on Facebook, Tweet about it or feel free to add the book cover to your Pinterest

Hot New Release: Caine Fordham has a deadly ability, one that has cost him the price of love. Find out more in Atone, a NEO Chronicles: Characters Revealed novella. Get your copy now and enjoy a slice of assassin pie.

Sekrit Project Nuggets

I've hinted at my sekrit project here and there, but now I'm going to share some tidbits about it with Sekrit Project Nuggets.

Several months ago, I had a great conversation with my writing bud, Angela Orlowski-Peart. After some e-mail chit-chat back and forth, she and I decided to hop on the phone to help me brainstorm a fairy tale mash up idea that had been plaguing my mind. When I say plaguing, I mean "Me shiny new idea REFUSE to be ignored" kind of plaguing. But I was a little lost in the many possibilities. Having promised a friend to assist in moving in to their new place - and not properly coordinating these two events in my brain's calendar - Angela and I tossed around ideas while I carried knick-knacks, unpacked boxes and survived standing on ladders and talking at the same time lol!

I let the central ideas we came up with marinate, brew and change until I reached a pretty good place with my story idea. No dark and twisted YA for this one, though that was contemplated. I decided to go Middle Grade adventure.

Yeah...Me...writing MG. Enter the reading/researching because no way could I just hop into the story without some sort of direction.

And enter Caesimilia 'Case' Mollands, my main character, a twelve-year-old girl with a penchant for high-tops and basketball along with a serious crush on Justin Timberlake.

That's it for today's nugget. There'll be more to come *smiles*

Please make sure to stop by tomorrow for a SPECIAL post, a cover reveal of the next NEO Chronicles: Characters Revealed installment - ATONE.

What comes to mind when you think of your first kiss?

And I Quote...

Hey, so I was recently introduced to something called piZap on Facebook. Thanks to Cheree Crump for sharing this with me.

Here's the first one I created. It is from a scene in Neverlove between Father Quanon and Abby:
piZap is for more than quotes but this was kind of nice to throw together.

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Eternelles: The Beginning

Please welcome Natalie G. Owens and Zee Monodee to my blog for a stop on the Eternelles blog tour. They're here today to share a little about villains, actually more like a message from one of  the baddies. Take it away :-)

Evil comes to Shadow Bridge
The Eternelles series by Zee Monodee and Natalie G. Owens has and will have several villains as the saga unfolds in the town of Shadow Bridge and beyond. Some characters may easily straddle the line between good and evil, keeping their motivations secret. However, one of the first bad-to-the-bone characters we encounter is a well-known Greek god who loves to stir up trouble… Here’s his chilling message to the readers:
For centuries, I have watched her. Preyed from the shadows. Observed from the sidelines.... she that should never have been born continues to thrive, while I...I wait, because my turn will come. I am nothing if not a patient man.
*snicker* Man, I said. Well, that’s not really true, for I am not a man. While other gods from the Greek pantheon fall into oblivion as the humans forget about them and stop praying, I am the only one they remember.
Wine, revelry, fastidious and immoral pursuits—never better than humans to pursue all these. In doing so, they keep me alive. Keep me thriving.
But she.... Adrasteia, foster daughter of Zeus. I will not say the rest of her name, because it is an aberration. A taunt, a sly wink that attempts to drive home the fact that she escaped.
Not for much longer, though. She should’ve died two thousand, nine hundred years ago, right after she’d been born. Her death would’ve meant strength for me. Immortality the kind human worship cannot provide.
Humans say the legacy of the father lives on in his children, in his descendants. Mine have never interested me. Except for her.
The time has come. Her time to die has arrived. First, though, she will pay, for all these centuries she spurned me by steering away from her heritage. For all these years she has lived a happy and peaceful life. For daring to believe happiness will knock at her door.
They say there is nothing worse for a parent to watch powerless as their children suffer. Adrasteia is no human and no mortal, but she is a mother. So she will suffer. She will pay...for my name is Dionysos, Greek god of wine and revelry, and I am finally here to exact my revenge on my wayward daughter.
Intrigued? More about Inescapable, the first in the Eternelles series:
An immortal born from an unlikely alliance...
Beautiful mythic Greek heiress Adrasteia 'Adri' Dionysios has roamed the world for millennia, taking her pleasure where she wanted. Until one night, when Fate drops a baby wrapped in fire into her arms. Motherhood is a formidable challenge, but so is figuring out the identity of a mystery man who makes her pulse race.
A vampyre’s obsession…
Seraphine 'Sera' Dionysios' origins are shrouded in mystery. Torn between a mother whose blood saved her life, and a man who now possesses her soul, the only thing Sera can still cling to is her heart.
One rule matters above all others: Always protect the portal…
When Evil comes to Adri and Sera’s hometown of Shadow Bridge, a place where the mortal human world ends and the supernatural realm starts, it’s up to them to stop a prophecy as old as time itself...or die trying.

The two short prequels to this series, ADRASTEIA and SERAPHINE, are also available now from all major online retailers. Both are so far free on Smashwords and Kobo.

About the authors:

Zee Monodee
Author, smitten wife, in-over-her-head mum to a tween boy, best-buddy stepmum to a teenage lad, bookaholic, incompetent housewife desperate to channel Bree van de Kamp & Nigella Lawson (and failing miserably!)... Zee hails from the multicultural, rainbow-nation island of Mauritius, in the southern Indian Ocean. Shamelessly addicted to Supernatural, Glee, and Gossip Girl, she did put her brain to good use by getting a degree in Communications Science. Romance remains her big love, though, and she likes nothing more than writing strong, kick-arse heroines. Find out more about Zee and her work at

Natalie G. Owens
Pink velvet and black lace. Light and darkness. A world of contrasts exists in Natalie’s stories because every rose has its thorn. Her favorite stories to write are romances with a dark edge featuring brooding heroes, strong heroines, and a good dash of fantasy. Married, with one son, she now calls the beautiful island of Malta home after eleven good years in Atlanta, GA. When she’s not working or writing—or muttering to myself about it like a batty old maid—she enjoys spending time with family and friends (both online and offline), reading, cooking, watching a good movie, taking trips, and ogling shoe store displays.
