And Tango Makes Three in Top Ten Challenged

When I saw this book at Barnes & Noble, I had no idea it was a banned book. I adored the cover and reading that it was based on a true story about two penguins raising an adopted penguin just gave me the happy-giggles. The problem folks have with this book:

The two penguins are both male.

I would ask what am I missing here but I think I got it this time. I'm not happy I got it, but I got it -_-

  1. Haven't had time to make the rounds in this hop. This is one I'd want to have a look at to see how the story is conveyed.

  3. I heard about this too. Homosexuality is always a hot button topic.

  4. Good grief, a bit of fuss over a couple of gay penguins. If they're happy and they make for a caring couple, I don't really care. I remember this following crap from back in 1999. The book in question on your posting reminded me. "The innocent world of the Teletubbies is under attack from America's religious right.
The Reverend Jerry Falwell, a former spokesman for America's Moral Majority, has denounced the BBC TV children's show. He says it does not provide a good role model for children because Tinky Winky is gay."

    Have a good weekend, Angela.

  5. You've hit me where I live with this one, Angela - in the picture books! I just do not understand people. All kids deserve to have books they can relate to, and so many of our kids have two moms or two dads. Shouldn't they be able to read picture books that represent their families? Banning a book like this is close-minded and intolerant, unfair to kids who could benefit, and not smart because you're then missing an opportunity to teach children to be open-minded, loving, and tolerant. 'nuff said!

  6. Because I try really, really hard to avoid politics, religion, and general PC crap online, I'm not gonna comment. It likely wouldn't be PG-13 :D

  8. YOU are KIDDING ME? They banned a book because two male penguins raised an adopted baby... HOW OBSURD... People really do need to GET A GRIP! I am shocked and appalled. Not only is banning books RIDICULOUS, but to ban on for this reason....

Are we NOT LIVING in the 21ST CENTURY... How many more decades or centuries do we need?

People are so ignorant and STUPID!

Thanks for sharing this charming book with us, Angela...

Side note: Those penguins are too stinkin' cute! :)

  10. That anyone would object to the notion of opening your hearts to one in need just astounds me. In this example, it's just plain silly.
