X = Y, Wait, Not Algebra on A Monday!!!!

Nope, not algebra. Don't tell my math teacher, but there have been times in my life where I actually had to use algebra to solve work situations.

Ugh! The horror! LOL!!

But really, I'm linking X to Y for my A to Z tweeting and wanted to share this:

The X-factor to take the deepest look at when it comes to success is You. What is it that drives you, that keeps you moving after all the energy drains away and the sugar high from too many cappuccinos drop you like a wicked hot potato?

For me, it's the passion that drives me. It pushes me to be IndiestructIble. And speaking of IndiestructIble (like that segue?), I'd like to invite interested individuals to get in early on spreading the word about this anthology:

INDIESTRUCTIBLE: INSPIRING STORIES FROM THE PUBLISHING JUNGLE

INDIESTRUCTIBLE: INSPIRING STORIES FROM THE PUBLISHING JUNGLE, will launch September 16, 2013. It will be sold as an e-book for 99c for the first six months. After that, we will offer it for free. Forever. During the time that it will accrue royalties, they will be donated to BuildOn (www.buildon.org).

This book will bring readers the experiences of 29 indie authors—their passions, their insights, their successes—to help other authors make the leap into indie publishing. This is not a how-to guide. This is the best of the indie tradition of experienced authors paying forward what they’ve learned, giving authors information to help them on their journey. The personal essays in this book will leave them itching to get their work into the hands of readers and experience, first-hand, all the rewards indie publishing has to offer.

I'm humbled and honored to be a contributor. Would you like to be a part of the book launch? If so, please click here to sign up.

Hop on early for the Facebook event by clicking here and join in for the fun to come.

Don't forget to add it to your TBR at Goodreads. (Yeah, my TBR list is swelling with so much Goodread-ness too! lol!)

So what's YOUR X-Factor? What keeps you going when continuing on seems impossible?

Brain Farts Happen

Yep, they even happen to those of us who try to stay on Post It note schedule (lol!!)

I forgot to post this past Wednesday and didn't realize it until it was late in the evening. Not my norm so hope you can forgive, please.

Here's a Happy Kitty for your Feel Good Friday :-)

Recognizing Success

I've been doing A to Z tweeting. Sharing my "lettered" thought in 140 characters or less has been interesting. I've mostly aimed toward #bepositive words, thoughts and avenues of encouragement. I didn't tweet on Saturday because I'm joining R with S for: Recognizing Success

Every milestone, whether big or small, should be celebrated. It doesn't require a gathering of friends and drinking Moscato until it appears your party doubled. Give yourself a well deserved pat on the back when you complete that first draft. Or if you're doing a reading challenge, gift yourself that 99cent ebook you've been eyeing (If it's Neverlove you've been eyeing, feel free to gift yourself, your friend and the Grumpy Cat lol!!)

Do you have any successes, big or small, you'd like to share? Maybe you cut a pound of fat off your body, that one pound that's been sticking to you like the obsessive ex that just doesn't give up? Perhaps you rehearsed a dance step that's been a huge challenge and got it down pat, finally?

Limping To The Finish Line

After the tragedy that befell the Boston Marathon...
A teen with a self-inflicted gun shot wound, which they self-inflicted at the local high school...
And the fertilizer plant explosion in West, TX...

I'm going to say thank you to all who shared their thoughts, prayers and well wishes for those impacted and be thankful for this TGIF. It shouldn't take a tragedy to appreciate what we have, but boy do they do one heckuva job driving home the point of what's REALLY important in life.

***Hearts*** to everyone and have a blessed, happy, great, restful weekend :-)

24 hours

Credit to MS Clip art
That's the number of hours there are in one day. I'm far from perfect, but I'm taking baby steps toward building more balance in my day.

The key?

Accepting I can do my best, that I can do A LOT, but not ALL.

I've been looking at my schedule: a purple Post it note with a few titles currently in process and a second Post it note with sequel titles (I hear you snickering lol! Don't judge.). Very slowly but steadily, I'm able to mark off a task here and a completed step there.

My sekrit project is making steady progress, currently in revisions.

Frailties of the Bond is finally loaded to iTunes/iBooks and it's free! Yeah, please feel free to tell your friends. This novella is also free on Kobo. I'm working to get it perma-free on Amazon. For anyone with a couple of extra minutes, I would truly appreciate you sharing with the Zon that you found a lower price: Would you like to give feedback on images or tell us about a lower price
This is located in the Product Details section. Maybe the more that report it, the better chance of getting it perma-free.

That's what's happening in my world. Going now to work on the sequel to Neverlove. The date to release TAFD is not set in stone, but I'd really like to get it out soon for readers to enjoy.

So, what's happening in your neck of the interwebz?

Helga: Out of the Hedgelands Book Blast

Helga: Out of the Hedgelands Twelve-year-old Helga has more danger in her life than most beasts her age—Wrackshee slavers after her, a vicious attack by bandits that nearly kills her, a race against dragons pursuing her, and leading a daring rebellion to save her life and rescue friends and family from the insidious WooZan. And that is just the beginning. But what do you expect when you are a young beast who just can’t see the stupid rules of the world making any sense?

Helga can’t accept things as they are and ends up taking on not just one, but two all-powerful, supreme tyrants in two different realms. Helga never intended to lead a revolution. It just sort of happened because she wouldn’t go along with the “rules of normal” that keep tyrants in power and entire societies enslaved.

Beginning on a dangerous quest to solve some mysteries in her own past, Helga leads her quirky comrades on a journey that will not only forever change them, but upset ancient civilizations.

As an author, I’m drawn to eccentric, unexpected characters: those who surprise because they hear a distant galaxy, see a different music, create their own fragrance rather than get hooked on a soundtrack; the child who has her own ideas about how the emperor is dressed; the lunatics and rebels who tell stories on the boundaries. Helga’s unusual story will take readers to worlds they never imagined—definitely a whole new ride. Time and again, the unconventional heroine and her eccentric comrades overcome ominous tyrants and black-hearted slavers, not by battling to the last beast standing, but by being the first beast to think differently.

Helga: Out of Hedgelands is divided into three books which introduce the epic saga of the Wood Cow clan and their role in overturning centuries of slavery and tyranny. This story will continue in additional volumes of the Wood Cow Chronicles now in development. Over the series of current and future volumes, the entire history of the Wood Cow clan, the fall of Maev Astuté, and the coming of Lord Farseeker to the Outer Rings, will be told.

Author Rick Johnson I am a native of the Great Plains, having grown up on a farm in the Platte River Valley of western Nebraska. I love the wild beauty of the Plains and nearby Rocky Mountains--the too hot, too cold, too empty, too full of life extremes. Typically, the awesomely diverse and the awesomely stark are much the same, even as they are different. Although I have lived in Michigan, North Carolina, and British Columbia, the western plains, mountains, and desert are in my heart. As my day job, for over thirty years I have been a faculty member and administrator in higher education. Teaching broadly in the liberal arts, including creative writing, my professional publications include educational materials, poems, and 28 stories for young readers. During my spare hours, I have also collected and carefully studied the records of former times upon which the Wood Cow Chronicles are based. It is my privilege to bring this astonishing saga to light. The Wood Cow Chronicles have been researched and written with the irreplaceable assistance of Barbara, my beloved wife of more than thirty-five years, and our children. Indeed, the essential research into the history of the Wood Cows has been conducted during the odd hours of family reading and storytelling "around the campfire" as we say--even when there is no campfire! This research continues and grows richer as our family expands across generations and continents.

What Rhymes With Monday?

FUNday!

I thought about writing something deep, thoughtful and discussion worthy. Something about the Road Less Traveled. Blah, blah, blah. Serious moment, yada, yada.

Then I thought, "Ummmm...nah. Maybe another day."

Today, let's have fun. So here's the deal, in the comments, write a word that - when you say it or hear it said - it makes you laugh, giggle or think of something off the wall.

For example, any time I hear the word "scourge" used, I want to break out with a "Yo, ho, ho and a bottle of rum!" Yep, I think about pirates which leads to Captain Jack Sparrow which leads to Johnny Depp. Not a bad way to end that train of thought actually.

Alright now...GO FOR IT!

Is it Really Friday Already?

This week flew by, left me choking on its dust. I don't even think I got my shoes tied well and good before this week was half-way to the finish line.

But we're here, ready to rocket into the weekend. Maybe things will slow down?

No?

You don't think so?

Me neither.

At least I get to share the good news about who won my Reviewer Appreciation Giveaway.

Drum roll please....

****Heather McCorkle****

Now all she has to do is send me a $25 Amazon e-gift card. Wait...scratch that and reverse it. I will send her a $25 egift card to spend as willy nilly as she pleases :-)

So my blogger buds, what do YOU have planned for the weekend?

Reveal
You think seeing ghosts is weird? Tell me something I don't know.
My childhood best friend Jeremy happens to be a ghost.
My life is a puzzle, and the biggest piece missing has been my dad. Since his disappearance when I was six it's been tough, but Jeremy has been by my side through it all.
But now Jeremy has gone missing too and I feel like I'm never going to get all the answers I've been looking for.
Fate intervenes when Hugh, a real live college beefcake, starts taking an interest in me. He divulges that he also shares my little "gift" of seeing the dead and I know I'm finally getting closer to finding all the pieces.
However, the more the puzzle is completed, the more questions I have.
Senior year is hard enough as it is, but clearly I like a challenge.

Tsavo Pride by author Laura Diamond

Author Laura Diamond had such a blast sharing her PRIDE series with you that she’s decided to self-publish a spin-off short story. Set in 1890’s Kenya and based on the man-eating lions of Tsavo, this young adult paranormal short has a decidedly horroresque bent to it.

Here’s a teaser trailer on YouTube:

Blurb:

Rogue shapeshifters, Santamo and Legeny, believe they are kings blessed with the power to shift into lions. Using that strength, they brutally defend their land from the British building the Ugandan Railroad that threatens their way of life. On a particularly ruthless raid, Santamo meets his match—Naserian. He spares the girl’s life, a move that fractures his relationship with Legeny and blurs his visions of cleansing his territory of invaders.

While the pile of bones in Santamo and Legeny’s cave grows, so does Santamo’s attraction to Naserian. When she challenges him to give up his murderous ways, will Santamo stay on the path of death he believes is his duty, or will he choose Naserian, and love?

TSAVO PRIDE is NOW AVAILABLE via Amazon for $0.99! Amazon Prime members can borrow it for free. ;)

Book Trailer:

About the Author:

Eventually the day came when the voices in Kelley Lynn’s head were more insistent then her engineering professor’s. So instead of turning to her Thermodynamics book, Kelley brought up a blank page on her computer screen and wrote. Somewhere along the way she became a Young Adult author.

Kelley was born and raised a Midwestern girl. She’s not afraid to sweat and fills her free time with softball, soccer and volleyball. (Though you probably don’t want her on your volleyball team.) She occasionally makes guest appearances as a female vocalist for area bands.

Hop into the Darcyville Fun w/ NO BRAINER

Today is another cover reveal coming from author A J Lape, one with a bit of humor and mystery in the twist.

Welcome to Darcy Walker's world with...

Coming in May!
Here's the skinny on NO BRAINER:

Two weeks before junior year, Darcy hops a plane to Orlando for a little R&R with her best friend Dylan and his family. Fresh off the heels of solving three murders in Valley, you'd think she'd sit back and enjoy the vacation capital of the world…maybe if you're a noun. Darcy Walker, however, is nothing but verb.
Before her feet hit the Orlando soil, she's meddling in the disappearance of a five-year-old boy who vanished six months earlier.
With authorities still no closer to solving the case, Darcy is shanghaied by her impulsivity and runs headlong into that proverbial burning building, convinced she can bring him home.
She travels down a road that not only follows this missing child but branches off into the corrupt and sinister world of mob activity when she tampers in a case on which Dylan's detective grandfather is working.
After a near disastrous midnight meeting in a warehouse and a date with a mechanical bull, Darcy realizes she might've bitten off more than she can chew. Add the boiling flirtationship with her best friend and the appearance of his romantic rival, and she is in over her head.
Will she survive a life of flirting with death too easily? Or will her flirtationship with Dylan become the actual death of her instead?
For a girl with a habit of finding dead bodies, No Brainer gives Darcy Walker more of the same…surprising twists and turns…and running for her life.

Writer on Fire

***First, let me thank each and every one of you who stopped by and commented on Monday's blog post. I don't speak of my mother often. When I do, well, if you've lost a loved one that was so ingrained and etched into the very fiber of your being that being without them still doesn't compute after twenty years, you know what I'm talking about.***

So, it is that time again. First Wednesday of the month. Insecure Writer's Support Group, championed by none other than the great Ninja Captain, Alex Cavanaugh.
Get the deets here :-)
Today is pretty much short and sweet.
Here is where I want to be in five years:

Writer On Fire

I want this writing thing to be more than a "thing." I want a career, a livelihood, a way of life. I'm a little afraid because I'm realizing this can take more time than the patience I have in my reserve tanks lol! Not every author will be an overnight success. Perhaps I'll have my overnight success five or six years from now lol!

But that is what I want to be...

Writer on Fire

What can you imagine for yourself in five years?

The Most Beautiful of Things

Some of the most beautiful of things in life can not be measured by men.

It is difficult to ascertain the length or depth to which a parent will go for a child or a child for their parent.

It still touches my heart to reach this day, April 1st - April Fool's for some - and I feel the tiniest of pains.

On this day, in the late 1940's, a child was born. She was raised in a small country town of Arkansas. Her adventures eventually led her to receive not one, not two, but three little kiddos in her life, each as unique and different as can be: older boy athlete, middle girl nerd, baby girl who just wanted to have fun.

Through heartaches and struggles, Christmases with very few presents, a neighborhood rocked hard by gangs and drugs, this mother was a praying woman who saw her athlete grow into a proud member of the military, her middle child as a second year college student and her baby girl growing strong when life, it seemed, had different plans for her.

She left this world in 1996, but she left a most beautiful of things: a legacy of love that I hope and pray I can do half as well in passing on to my Chipmunk.

Rest in peace, Momma. You will always be missed.
