Post It Focused - February Goals Round Up

That pastel yellow post it note stayed in front of me all month long. My eyes often lingered on the list, noting something here or adding something sideways along an empty space there. Did I make it?

 - Begin review of Secret Lilies for republication - This has started
 - Finish first draft of last story in Confessions short story series - Done
 - Get started on final story for Shadow Jumpers series - Got some plot ideas popping
 - Release A View to Ecstasy on Feb 21 - Fun and Done
 - Get edits in/done for third story in Confessions short story series - Done
 - Get first draft and revisions done for UR anthology project - Done

Needless to say, it's been a busy time. And I don't see things slowing down just yet. This writing focus really has my muse enthused. And well, I'm going to keep following my muse along for the twisty-turning-curvy ride lol!!

Looking at the covers of the Shadow Jumpers series thus far, it'll be interesting to see what the third one will look like. Hmmmm...

Hijacked by Nicole Zoltack and a Barbarian

Hi, everyone! Nicole Zoltack here and I'm so happy to share with you the cover for my release.

Isn't it just beautiful? And it's perfect for the story.

Here's the blurb for BLOODLUST, a NA epic fantasy romance.

In a world torn by prejudice and hatred, six races struggled for supremacy.

Barbarian-Princess Ivy is unwilling to allow her father to provoke the other races into war and forms an unlikely alliance with Lukor the goliath to save her people from utter destruction.

Unbeknownst to her, Lukor blames the barbarians for murdering his sister and plans on sabotaging her goal.

Almost despite each other, they grow to respect each other on their journey to decode secret messages from the trolls. But nothing Ivy can do will prevent the war as her father is blinded by Bloodlust and incites it himself. Not even killing him and becoming Barbaroness can stop the tide. And when Bloodlust claims Ivy, forcing her to kill everyone in her path, she must make a choice to destroy even Lukor, who she may have started to fall for and him in return.

The cover is so fitting, am I right?

The story will be released on TODAY! So excited. I'd love for you to share this and I'd even kiss you if you add it on Goodreads.

What do you think about the cover? The blurb? Does it sound like something you'd like to read?

Nicole Zoltack loves to write in many genres, especially fantasy romance. When she's not writing about knights, superheroes, or zombies, she loves to spend time with her loving husband and three energetic boys. She enjoys riding horses (pretending they're unicorns!) and going to the PA Renaissance Faire, dress in garb. She'll also read anything she can get her hands on. One Word Wednesday - Throwback style

At least I'm trying to invoke the badass-ness that this throwback makes me think of, especially being both excited and nervous with Confessions of a Sex Fiend: A View to Ecstasy by Rayven Godchild, my alter ego, releasing in THREE DAYS (OMG!!!).

So, what one word does this pic make you think of?

A Visit from the Ever-Refreshing Elizabeth Seckman

I'm bringing cheers Angela! I was writing this post when you said on Facebook, "Woke feeling great to be alive to start another year of life."

That made me smile *YAY!*. A positive spirit can spread warmth as quickly as a summer sun.

As a writer, it's easy to go negative...we have to deal with a lot of hooey (that's a real word evidently, no red line on my spell check!) and worry.

Are we good enough to get published; good enough to stay published; good enough to sell to someone who isn't on the Christmas card list?

And then there is the stress inside the business where the striation of the publishing path has left us with a high school atmosphere, only instead of checking the labels on clothes, we're checking the labels (and ranks) on books.

It can be depressing.

If all that matters is prestige.

But for those of us who find refuge in writing...we happily keep going *yes we do, Elizabeth!*

Because we know, it doesn't matter whether you're on the prom court or hanging with the wall flowers...words are our friends and they don't discriminate.

Fate Intended is the third book in the Coulter Men Series.  Trip is the last of the Coulter sons to find love. He’s a handsome man with all the skills a young spy needs to succeed. But when it comes to love, he misses the target. Jane is a sweet beauty who may or may not be wanted for murder. She’s hiding out as a cleaning lady when chance brings her and Trip together. It looks like a happily ever after is in the cross hairs until reality tries to destroy what fate has intended.

Elizabeth Seckman is a simple chick with a simple dream…to write stories people want to read.

Happy Valentine's Day - Er, A Bloody One Instead

Love is in the air...
Cupid is shooting arrows all over the place...
And blood?

Welcome My Bloody Valentine to the world. It is an anthology of short stories where all that love and Cupid's arrows seems to be all awry in chaos, bondage, mysteries, secrets, rebellion and more.
Available at Amazon
Don't fret. There are stolen kisses...and some whips and chains. Each author provides their own flavor of bloody Valentine.

I read Charlie Holmberg's "Salt and Water". It bothered me. It touched me. It made me cry. And I didn't want it to end. I received an ARC so it had just a few minor grammar issues. But did that take away from my enjoyment of her story. Uh, NOT! Charlie, big ups. I really enjoyed your writing. Can't wait to see what more you have in store.

What is a Hybrid Author?

What is the creature referred to as a "hybrid author?" Are they beings spliced together genetically or perhaps some liger-jumbling-of-authors?

Those answers are very imaginative, to be sure, but it's actually quite simple. A hybrid author is an author that has published through or is publishing through traditional and Indie paths.
For example, meet Elana Johnson, young adult author of the Possession series published by Simon and Schuster (part of the Big 6 - er - 5 - or whatever it is now). She is about to release a new book, titled ELEVATED, on February 18th. This book is one she is self-publishing. So she falls under the definition of hybrid author.

Susan Kaye Quinn is another great example of a hybrid author. She first published with Omnific Publishing but has since made her mark in the sci-fi world with her breakout Mindjack novels and future-noir Debt Collector serial. She's not one to let genre be a stumbling block either. She's also published a Bollypunk thrill-read and a middle grade fantasy.

Indie Romance Convention's 2014 Mistress of Ceremony, Victoria Vane, is also a hybrid author. She's an award winning author who pens smart and sexy romance from historical to contemporary. Her Devil Devere series is self-published under her Vane Publishing LLC. And get ready for some Hot Cowboy Nights as Victoria also has a new series releasing from Sourcebooks, the first book being SLOW HAND, set to release November 2014.

When you take a look around, you'll find plenty of other examples, some that may have been around for quite a while. "Hybrid author" is just a term, a way to reference, to categorize. The authors, themselves, are just authors, plain and simple. They're storytellers embracing the traditional and Indie paths. We, the readers, just happen to be the benefactors. I, for one, am glad for it.

IRC 2014 and a Giveaway

IRC - Indie Romance Convention

It's the convention I attended last year where I had my first signing as an attending author. You probably remember this photo:

That was such a proud moment for me. I'll always cherish it

My desire is to attend this year's convention as well. Check it out here. It would be great to have some of you come on out, not for me, per se, but as an Indie Author or a reader who loves to support Indie and small press authors.

I'd like to try something different. I didn't ask for nominations for my novel because I was still feeling my way through some things. I'd like to humbly ask that, if you don't mind taking the time, you help me get They All Fall Down as a nominee for the 2014 Indie Romance Convention Awards.

They All Fall Down by me, Angela Brown, is a New Adult paranormal so it can fit a couple of categories. Click here to nominate my story if you'd like. I believe you should be able to use the page up/page down buttons on the keyboard to navigate the nomination section. Thanks in advance.

And because February is a month of many things - Black History month, Amor, Valentine's/Chocolates/Flowers - I'm doing a giveaway...because February is also the month of my birthday :-)

IWSG - Peace for Me

Deets and blog list here
First Wednesday of the month, we gather the IWSG to share in the good, the bad and the ugly of being a writer. It's therapeutic. It's supportive and it's helpful knowing you don't have to suffer or celebrate alone.

Right now, I'm at a pretty decent spot. I've started things rolling with my alter ego, Rayven Godchild. And I've got my Post it Notes set for my February goals.

It's been quiet on the kiddo front because my daughter is maturing and we're getting along rather well. She's only 9 so I'm going to keep holding hope for some decent pre-teen and teen years lol!!

Each day I strive to think positive thoughts when I wake up, banishing any negative. I want to be like Alice in the movie Alice in Wonderland, or at least what she said her father said :-) I want to believe I'm capable of completing 6 impossible things before breakfast. Such dreams can come true when we believe.

What "impossible" would you like to conquer in your world?

A Different Piece of Me - Music

I've mentioned this a time or two, but not so often, that music is something of interest to me. I'm no expert in any genre. I haven't studied musicians like I used to oh so many years ago. But when I hear something I appreciate, I embrace it.

I did this with Adele, which eventually led to my 2012 A to Z challenge blog opera and self-publishing Neverlove.

I haven't had such a reaction in a while. My Chipmunk shared a group with me that I think is something worth blogging about.

They're called Pentatonix. They were on something called The Sing Off. As I don't pay much attention to reality shows, I guess this was one of those one-off things I missed out on.

This is them (along with someone named Lindsey Stirling) doing a cover of Imagine Dragon's song Radioactive:
Oh, and if you watched the Superbowl last night, Bruno Mars was SPECTACULAR!!! I absolutely loved his combination of old school/new school with some Rock Jumping when Red Hot Chili Peppers got out there. When he closed the show with a song that veterans were dedicating to their loved ones, that really touched me.

What's some music you love or would be willing to share about?
