A Rayven Godchild Update

The Confessions of a Sex Fiend series has been available in separate short stories, each with it's own theme with one thread in particular tying it all together. Very soon, the stories can be read from beginning to end, one steamy encounter after another until it culminates in the final episode.
~ ~ ~ On the path to earning his degree in mechanical engineering, Chancellor Baltimore, geek-extraordinaire, experiences a detour of a lifetime. He discovers his inner sex fiend and an incurable yearning to be the fantasy, bring the pain, and ensure unbridled pleasure for his clients. But even he experiences a bump in the road.  ~ ~ ~

In Tasting Cherry, everyone has a first time.
In A View to Ecstasy, it’s so much more fun when there’s more than two in the tango.
In Retreat Bound, there’s pleasure in the pain.
And in Bound to Collide, Chancellor experiences a collision course that is inevitable.
Let’s enjoy these tales of a sex fiend as Chancellor continues to break the rule that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

Shhhhh! Don’t tell anyone. They will be our little secrets…

**May 26th expected release date**

So, I must admit that writing a Confessions-themed story sometimes left me wondering what people would be willing to share. Various memoirs have shown some pretty interesting things about people and the things they've done in their lives. If you've read an interesting memoir or confessions-themed journal, what's the most memorable confession you can recall?

One Word Wednesday

Okay peeps. Time to use your imagination since it's another episode of One Word Wednesday.
It would interesting to caption this so you're not limited to one word. Here is my - rather pathetic - attempt:

"Mildred, I don't think this is the way to California."

Hey Angela, There's Something You Should Know

Angela Brown
Author of the Shadow Jumpers series
@ALBrownwrites (Twitter)
I write this today hoping that it will be read, enjoyed and maybe learned from (Hey Pk or Carrie, you're welcome to make this a part of the ebook if you'd like).

Hey early-twenties-Angela,
There's something you should know. Actually, I recognize that pained expression; your brows knitted, eyes narrowed and nostrils flaring. I know what's in your hands. It's WHEN PEBBLES FALL, the manuscript you sent in to that contest thinking for sure they were going to be wowed by your writing prowess. Instead, you have enough red ink slashed through the pages to donate a few pints to the local blood bank. It wasn't a terrible story, just poorly executed given the circumstances.

Those circumstances will need time to change.

I know, I know. Patience is not your strong suit. Well, that is exactly what you will build very slowly over time.

By the way, it's okay that you delete WHEN PEBBLES FALL from the universe. Honestly, it served it's purpose as a therapeutic channel to deal with your emotions, especially those still needling at you because of your mother's death. But I digress.

For a time, you will distance yourself from writing, focusing on reading as entertainment and education. You learn to break a scene down to see what you like as a reader. And it isn't too long after that you find yourself grabbing a pen and notepad to start another story. I wish I could tell you things go right this time, but after you self-publish this manuscript, Secret Lilies, through Authorhouse, things in your life take another manic turn. Only this time, your writerly circumstances will make a change for the better and really buoy your passion for writing.

You'll have a rock star critique group of people who've published for years and have loads of experience. You also learn to take criticism of your work tons better than you did when you got WHEN PEBBLES FALL back and cried until your eyes threatened to pop out of your head. *note - whether in person or online, crit groups are truly beneficial*

Then, well, I guess that's why third time's the charm. You're going to participate in an A to Z blogging challenge that will lead you to writing a story you didn't intend. Sounds crazy, huh? I know, it kind of does, but it's not. You're going to love these characters and have your own thoughts and ideas on how you'd like to see Neverlove be brought to the world. Traditional publishing with an agent and a publishing house aren't removed from your mind, but self-publishing meets your desire to control the publishing process.

By the way, you suck wind at the whole "buy my book" schtick. You get better with patience...not so much with the marketing lol!

Okay, let me stop laughing at you - erm - me - uh - us and get back to the one thing that is truly important: Stay persistent, Angela, and stay true to your heart. No, you will not be the next JK Rowling. Trust me, the sooner you accept that the better, especially when that's the one name people will associate with you because of your similarities as divorced struggling single parents. That's where the similarities end. She has her own style and you have your own. Stick to being you, always, and never forget the reason for writing and publishing in the first place. Not for fame, fortune or best selling status, but for the passion.

Jessa Russo and DIVIDE

We're all in for a treat!

I love learning how various stories came to be, what the inspiration was, the catalyst for it all. And today, Jessa Russo is stopping by to share about DIVIDE.

Welcome, Jessa :-) Take it away.

How DIVIDE came to be:

Well, it’s simple, really . . . I was driving.

And then, “SQUIRREL!” Only, in this case, it wasn’t a squirrel, but a shiny new idea.

It went a little something like this:
I want to do a fairytale redux.
*more thinking*
Which one? I’ve never read any. Have they all been done?
*thinks about covers I’ve seen, like CINDER’s pretty cover*
Psssst . . . Beauty and the Beast.
*more nodding*
But, how can my Beauty and the Beast be different?
*light bulb*
*commences crazy grinning and more nodding*
So I started the story. And then I read the original Beauty and the Beast.
Later on, after I’d written most of the book and was struggling toward the end of NaNoWriMo 2012, my critique partner (the amazing Tamara Mataya, author of recent release JUST BREATHE <---shameless plug) read what I had so far and said something like, “Oh wow, I love this Dr. Jekyll thing you’ve got going on here.”
*scratches head*
Hmm . . . actually, that is an underlying theme of the book. I should expound on that. So I did.
Then I read the original Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
*writes more*

And so DIVIDE came to be, and we all lived happily ever after.

Or, well, not quite. Because then I had to query. *dies* Then I got my awesome agent. *yay!* Then we had to go on submission. *dies again* Then, after a lot of “We just signed something similar” and “Oh, sorry, we’ve signed all the fairytale retellings we want” . . . I had to accept the fact that I may have missed the boat on retelling classics.

But, as disappointed as I was—I’d thought FOR SURE this book was going to be my ticket into traditional publishing—I believed in my book, in my characters, and in my ability to tell their story, so I decided that it wasn’t DIVIDE’s time to be shelved.

I self-published—with the support of my agent, of course.

And that, my friends, is how DIVIDE came to be.

***I really love how DIVIDE was born!***

DIVIDE's Blurb:
From senior class president to dejected social outcast, with just the flick of a match.
After accusations of torching her ex-boyfriend’s home are followed by the mysterious poisoning of her ex-best friend, seventeen-year-old Holland Briggs assumes her life is over. And it is. But not in the way she thinks.
As Holland learns the truth about her cursed fate—that she is descended from the Beast most have only ever heard of in fairytales—she unites with an unlikely ally, good-looking newcomer Mick Stevenson.
Mick knows more about Holland’s twisted history than she does, and enlightening as it is to learn about, his suggestion for a cure is unsettling at best. Holland must fall in love with Mick in order to break the spell, and save their future generations from repeating her cursed fate. Having sworn off love after the betrayals of her ex-boyfriend and ex-best friend, this may be difficult to accomplish.
Complicating things further for Holland and Mick, time runs out, and Holland’s change begins way before schedule. With Holland quickly morphing into a dangerous mythical creature, Mick struggles to save her.
Should they fail, Holland will be lost to the beast inside her forever.

Author Bio:
Jessa Russo believes in fairytales, ghosts, anJake Ryan. She insists mimosas were created for Sundays, and that’s not up for discussion.  She’s obsessed with the great city of New Orleans—where she’s collected too many beads to count, eventually married her sweetheart, and visited graveyards they don’t include on maps.
She’s loud, painfully honest, and passionate about living life to the fullest, because she’s seen how abruptly it can be taken away.
What began as a desire for reading and writing young adult paranormal has bled into stories of all kinds. From fantasy to pre-dystopian to erotic contemporary, Jessa’s stories always include romance, though she’s given up on pigeonholing her work into a category or genre box.
Jessa was born and raised in Southern California, and remains there to this day with her husband (a classic car fanatic), their daughter (a Tim Burton superfan), and a Great Dane who thinks he’s the same size as his Chihuahua sister.
ENTWINED, the final installment of Russo’s Ever Trilogy, will be released later this year, as well as CHLORINE&CHAOS, an erotic contemporary romance (writing as Parker Jameson).

IWSG - Moseying Along

First Wednesday of the month has arrived. For those who don't know, it's the time to share the good, bad and ugly regarding writing, publishing and just plain wishing when it comes to a writer's life. It's a chance to get a few things off your chest, sharing with those who can TRULY understand where you're coming from OR to give a word of encouragement, cheer or good news. Click here for the deets and linky list.

As for me, well, I'm trying to mosey along, you know, do what I can when I can while maintaining some form of life/mom/writer balance, time is rolling on some kind of warp engine. At least, that's what it feels like lol!!

April zoomed by. I took a moment to see if I actually accomplished something. Let's take a look:

 - Publish Bound to Collide under Rayven Godchild pen name: Done, YAY!!!
 - Review MS of Secret Lilies: Completed a full read through.
 - Revise short story for UR project: Done and forwarded for the next round of edits.
 - wonk on ONE WISH ASTRAY revisions (tentatively changing to ONCE UPON A SUMMONS): Hmmmm...I had good intentions...but no.
 - work on getting Confessions of a Sex Fiend boxed set on the roll for publication in May: Of the things that need to get done, I mainly have to work on ensuring I get things uploaded. I am scheduling the release of the boxed set for May 26th.

Well, not exactly a knocked-out-the-park kind of month, but I'm glad to see there are some things that DID get done lol!!

So, Hello, May :-) I guess it's time to see what you have in store, besides May flowers from those April showers.

How are things progressing along for you?
