Something New

As you may recall, I mentioned I was interesed in doing some book cover changes in one of my last posts. Now, here's the deal, I LOVE my current book covers Heather McCorkle did for me for Neverlove and They All Fall Down of the Shadow Jumpers trilogy.
Yet, as lovely as they are, they do not let readers know these titles are part of a series or trilogy, so a change was in order. But in what way could I honor the symbolism and beauty in both covers? After I reviewed what the series was about as a whole, then did a deep dive into ThinkStock photos for some inspiration, I stumbled upon something that lit a fire under me. I turned to Heather McCorkle to bring these new covers to life as she was the designer of the originals. Here are the new covers to Neverlove and They All Fall Down of the Shadow Jumpers trilogy...
Duty or love...there can be only one.
A love worth fighting for...
To ensure book 3 is in aligntment, Heather and I have gathered a great photo that I hope rounds the book covers out nicely.

As I mentioned in my post about this coming change, change can be scary. As much as I am excited, I'm a tad afraid the covers may not be received well, despite my personal opinion that they honor the original covers justly through their fiery symbolism.

So here I am opening this up to you, my blog buddies, readers, friends and all :-)

A Merry Christmas To You ALL!!

It is Christmas Eve, a day filled with shopping. Stores get to experience the frantic, the last-minute, the procrastinator, and the one-more-thing of shoppers crowding everywhere.

It's a day where final plans are made or changes to ideas are thrown against the wall to see what sticks.

It is the day before we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, celebrate giving, celerate humanity's capacity for good.

I wish you ALL a very, berry, Merry Christmas, Happy Hannakah, and a Joyous Kwanzaa. Whatever your beliefs or however you choose to celebrate this holiday, I hope it is done fulfilling your heart's desire. So if that means family, fun and raucus shooting of guns in the backyard (preferably at non-human targets if at all possible), a family table overflowing with food, friends, and conversation or relaxing in solitude, taking time to enjoy a little peace and quiet...enjoy it blissfully :-)

Sudden Secrets by the Always Awesome C. Lee McKenzie

C. Lee McKenzie is an author I both respect and adore. Being Evernight Teen Publishing buds is pretty cool as well. She has a new novel available that is a MUST GET now or for the holidays.

Sudden Secrets
About Sudden Secrets
One Secret
Cleo has struggled to heal after her baby sister’s death, but the flashbacks to the accident won’t go away. With the move, she vows to keep her tragedy a secret and avoid pitying looks.
One Mystery
Something’s strange about the abandoned house across the street—flashes of light late at night and small flickers of movement that only someone looking for them would see.
Everyone says the house is deserted, but Cleo is sure it isn’t, and she’s sure whoever is inside is watching her.
Another Secret
In one night, Belleza’s life changes forever. So famous, her only choice is to hide her secret from the world so she can silence small town bigotry.

Debut of In Self Defense by Loralynne Summers

Evernight Publishing author Loralynne Summers is releasing her debut novel In Self Defense.
About In Self Defense
She fell in love—in self-defense…
The last thing that Sarah wants in her life is a relationship. Her track record was horrendous, and the last guy she’d dated had beaten her mentally and physically, landing her in the hospital. Almost a year later she’s back on her feet, thanks in no small part to her best friend Jason. Trouble is, lately she wants more than a friendship with Jason, and it scares the hell out of her. And then he kisses her…
His offense may hit a brick wall…
Jason has been in love with Sarah for longer than he’ll willingly admit to. Since bringing her home from the hospital, she’s grown into a strong, secure, confident woman. After seeing how perfect his best friend really is, he can’t get her off his mind. He’s convinced her feelings match his, and decides to go for it, only to scare her away.

Can best friends become something more? Or will she stay hidden behind her defensive wall?

About Loralynne Summers
As a child, Loralynne was always the student getting in trouble for talking in class and at home for making things up. Combining her ability to go on and on and her flair for storytelling, she naturally grew up to be a writer. Originally planning to write fantasy, her muse had other plans. Once she opened herself up to the whims of her muse, she couldn’t type her first sex scene fast enough and now writes romance. Loralynne lives in Upstate New York with her husband, cats, and growing family. You can friend her on Facebook or follow her on twitter under LL_Summers

Inspirations for In Self Defense
The story opens to Sarah mowing the lawn on a hot, humid day. And that’s exactly what I was doing when the idea first took root in my brain. My neighbor across the street arrived home on his Harley, and BAM! The whole opening scene was there in my head. I couldn’t type fast enough. There is a large part of my relationship in this story. Jason has some of my husband’s mentality, mostly in how he treats Sarah. I often tell my husband that I don’t deserve him, he is way better to me than I am to him! As for Sarah, I too fell in love with my best friend after leaving an abusive relationship. Thankfully, mine never reached the level of physical abuse, but the signs were all there, and it was only a matter of time. As in the story though, I was quite afraid of my feelings for my husband, because of how close our friendship was and I was terrified to ruin it.

“Why are you carrying me fifty feet?” Sarah asked.
“Because I can. Because I’d be a jerk to make you stumble around on those shoes when you could fall and get hurt. But mostly because it’s my fault they’re broken in the first place.”
“Jason, I’m the one who gave Alex a roundhouse kick to the head in these things.”
“And you have no idea how proud I am of you for that. Doesn’t change the fact that I wasn’t there to protect you when he showed up, and I should have been.”
She sighed, settling her head on his shoulder. “It’s okay,” she whispered. If he could beat the shit out of himself, he would. It had been eating away at him from the moment she’d thrown herself at him and wouldn’t let go.

Change is a-coming

Change can be a scary thing that can make you want to avoid it at all costs.
But not all the time.
I'm looking to make some changes soon to the following book covers:

Shadow Jumpers trilogy and NEO Chronicles: Characters Revealed

I've enjoyed these covers. Loved them and will always cherish them. But Heather McCorkle and I are hoping the new covers, more uniform series covers, will be to your liking. They'll be coming soon. So if you prefer the current covers and haven't gotten your copy yet, please grab it now (Neverlove, They All Fall Down, Frailties of the Bond, Atone).

Until then, have you ever seen a cover change for a book you liked or just thought was pretty cool? What was your reaction?

There's been a lot of promoting (recent release of Beacon, YA urban fantasy dystopian) and hopping going on in my neck of the woods (Color of Love blog hop). But as much as being an author involves acting upon marketing opportunities, going on twittering about in social media; it is also about being a person, a human. Sometimes we forget that, especially in times like these where we want to get things squared away for our family holdiay shenanigans, plot and plan various holiday activities and incentives for readers and still, somehow, crank out some word count so we don't feel like worthless bumps on a log.

So I'd like to invite my fellow writer friends and readers to do something good for mind, body, soul, muse, and eyes:
* Stop and relax for at least ten minutes. No need to time it. It's more than likely you'll go a little longer than ten minutes and really need it to do so.
* During this ten minutes (or longer) stay away from the internet. It is amazing to realize how much we are tethered to the web by our computers, laptops, tablets and smart phones. Don't cheat your relaxation time by tapping away on your smartphone's touchscreen while lying comfy in your hammock. Really, just let it go for a few minutes.
In and out.
A steady rhythm

The holiday season is a wonderful time for giving and sharing goodwill toward men. But it has also transitioned into a time of consumerism, commercialism and bringing out the biggest and baddest our material society can come up with. Take a hint from Lazy Days kitty and allow yourself to relax for one brief moment. For one brief moment, remember the world will keep spinning if you decide to treat yourself to a moment of relaxation.

Your body just might thank you with...
*An extra ounce of rejuvination in your mind.
*A rested body ready to tackle that extra set of stairs.
*A soul feeling a little lighter and more in a giving mood, less the Grinch mood.
*Eyes eager to devour that extra short story a friend sent to your Kindle/Nook/Sony e-reader (etc.)

What would you suggest as another option of giving yourself a moment to breathe?

Color of Love Blog Hop and Beacon Keeps on Moving

The Color of Love Blog Hop is a chance to celebrate our love for characters of color in romantic fiction. *throws confetti*

If you've seen the cover of my latest release, Beacon, you can probably tell that I don't see characters as just black or just white (I guess that's also evident if you check out the scrolling book covers to your left). Love, self-discovery, seeking truths behind the smoke and mirrors around us...these things aren't specific to a group of people with certain skin pigmentation. They are human problems (or in the case of Macie Breen in Beacon, perhaps not so human *lol!*).
*FYI, the Beacon blog tour continues over at A British Bookworm's Blog, & Willow's Author Love Blog,*

I can not tell a lie. I adore beautiful accents. Exotic locations are definite pluses.A hot body is a hot body no matter what part of the world you come from. Yet the problems encountered in the fiction we authors pen are problems that can be experienced by any person, any place...or even any when.

My characters vary in pigmentation and ethnicity just as life presents itself in an array of problems, complications, issues and obstacles, just as love can be simple or a complicated drama unfolding over decades.

Variety, quite honestly, IS the spice of life.

Now go ahead and get your book-cover-love on!
