Featured and a Holiday

Beacon was featured on Kboards for newly published and overlooked books. Since my YA urban fantasy dystopian is newly published, it fits perfectly. Make sure to click the button to visit the Kboards blog for Beacon and check out more gems to discover.

And...

Thanksgiving is upon us, giving many of us pause to collect our thoughts about what we are thankful for. I'm certainly thankful for my Chipmunk. Being gainfully employed is helpful with keeping the lights on until enough people take a chance on me and purchase tons of my stories. Which leads me to being thankful for my writing passion. It's something that is such a huge part of who I am. And I'm thankful for YOU. Yep, you reading this post. You may or may not purchase my novel, may not get to comment often, or may not get to stop by very often because life is a busy, busy, busy adventure. But I thank you nonetheless. Sending you *Big Hugs* and a Happy Thanksgiving wish to you and yours.

The Lips Have It and Get Your Beacon On!

So you're probably looking at that post title thinking, "What in tarnation?" (If you're thinking what I think you're thinking, get your mind 3/4ths of the way out of the gutter lol!!!)

Before I get to explaining about lips and whatnot, I have to share something that made me dance around like a little giddy girl. I wonder if that could double as exercise? LOL! Anywho, guess what is available for you to get NOW -
...
..
.
If you guessed my YA urban fantasy dystopian, Beacon, then you are right!

Ripped Ties, 1
When ignorace is bliss, Bliss is power...
Tsunamis reduced the USA into a shell of itself, called The Fold. Surviving humans and vampires joined forces to form The Colony, where registered citizens do as their told.
They donate blood quarterly and dream of being chosen as Attendees for the Jubilee celebrations, that is, everyone except Macie Breen. With high school graduation near, she’s anxious to ditch the rules in hopes of starting a new life with Thane, an unregistered and also her best friend.
Her hopes fizzle when Macie is selected as an Attendee, forever registered. Any future with Thane…impossible. Being chosen comes with another unexpected price.
Truths about The Colony blaze into ashes and lies when she discovers the vampires haven't kept their part of the bargain. Worst still, Macie’s life unravels as her stint in the city of Bliss forces her to face daunting truths about who, and what, she really is.
As it becomes available at more locations, I'll certainly share :-)
Now...about those lips: I had a wonderful experience doing a blog talk radio interview with Berndadette Walsh at Nice Girls Reading Naughty Books. So THAT is why the lips have it. You get to hear me speak, probably very nervously - hopefully no major stutters or ungodly number of "Uh's".

Benadette is an obvious pro at this. She navigated the interview so well I actually felt like I was sitting down having a conversation with a girlfriend discussing books.

Click here to download the interview.
Click here to LIKE Nice Girls Reading Naughty Books because she has some great information about sales she's running, announcements about upcoming events/book releases from authors she's interviewed and a chance to check out the various authors that have shared interview time with her.

After this interview, I feel ready to take this weekend by storm, or at least do something that slightly resembles that lol!

Twisted Earths is a collection of tales from Untethered Realms, a group of speculative fiction authors. The stories are as varied and rich as the types of soil on this and other planets—sandy loam, clay, knotted with roots and vines, dreaded paths through unexplored planets, and in enchanted forests, lit by candlelight and two moons.

M. Pax, author of the series, The Backworlds and The Rifters spins a tale called Patchworker 2.0. Specialists with digital interfaces are the only ones who can distinguish between biological energy and mechanical pulses, and “patch” AIs, which hold the world together. Patchworker Evalyn Shore meets up with an AI with deadly intent.

Cherie Reich, known for her epic fantasy series The Fate Challenges and The Foxwick Chronicles, presents Lady Death. Umbria, a beautiful and powerful swordsmith, is given an impossible task by her brother Leon when he asks, “You are the assassin. Are you scared to destroy Death when you are up to your elbows in it?”

Angela Brown is the author of the paranormal Shadow Jumpers and NEO Chronicles series. In her story, In The Know, Jacob, a loyal family man is struggling to stay out of debt when he’s hired to report on big plans for a future Detroit. He’s given a mysterious manila envelope with instructions to “open it alone” or pay the price. With switchback twists you won’t see coming, a debt of a much steeper cost is what he just might end up paying for his involvement.

Catherine Stine, author of the futuristic thrillers, Fireseed One and Ruby’s Fire, offers The Day of The Flying Dogs, a sinister tale of brilliant, troubled NYC high-school student, Theo. He experiences a day at Coney Island that includes drugs, delusions, a lonely capybara, Nathan’s hotdogs and a mind-bending lesson in our very twisted universe.

Christine Rains, known best for her paranormal series The Thirteenth Floor, gives us The Ole Saint, a story at once sweet, horrific and heartrending. Ezra longs to fit in and have boys stop calling him witch and freak, yet his unique supernatural skill sets him apart, and the last gift from The Ole Saint cinches the deal.

Graeme Ing, known for his young adult fantasy, Ocean of Dust presents The Malachite Mine, a gripping, scream-inducing ride. Whatever was Mary thinking when she accepted her husband’s gift of a most terrifying twenty-first birthday celebration in an abandoned Russian mine?

River Fairchild, author of her Jewels of Chandra series, presents A Grand Purpose. Rosaya and her cousin, Drianna are soon to be married off, but Rosaya is unhappy with her assigned match. She’s much more intoxicated by the older Firrandor, a wizard she hardly knows. When Rosaya is accused of killing an oracle boy, all bets are off, not only for her love, but her freedom.

Gwen Gardner, who pens the cozy paranormal mystery series, Indigo Eady, adds to her collection with Ghostly Guardian. Indigo and her rib-tickling ghost-busters must travel to a dangerous pirate-laden past in order to unearth a curmudgeonly eighteenth century spirit that is plaguing the Blind Badger Pub.

Misha Gerrick, whose War of Six Crowns series is forthcoming, gives us a story called Red Earth and White Light. Emily, a young ghost bride has long haunted a house. She longs to cross over into the afterlife, but she’s trapped in memories of lilies and betrayal.

TEASERS (each teaser is from a different tale in the anthology)

“Stealing a few steps backward, I reached for him and brushed my fingertips along his cheek. Static energy crept across my palm. It glowed blue and pulled like taffy, sticking to my fingertips, then snapping back to his skin. My hand jerked back so hard I hit myself in the chest. My eyes traipsed down his neck, his shoulders, finally stopping at his midsection. It was almost as though I could see inside him. “

“The guards struggled forward, but failed to move even an inch. Everyone was frozen in place, except the uninvited guest. The man floated toward Lord and Lady Miller. “You see, my lord, your wife made a deal with me that cannot be broken. Your daughter is mine.”

“I swiped my hand across my nose, wishing I could smell the green of the trees. Eyes burning, I swallowed hard, feeling the incision in my throat where they’d cut out my sinus enhancer. I would never be able to smell my exotic perfumes again.”

“Anthie watched the lissom liquid slip inside the carrying tube. I could see her inhaling the smell of the lubricating oil. So could Dr. Holmgren. From time to time he looked across at us through his reinforced goggles. They gave him the appearance of a baby owl, which was at odds with his general nastiness. I knew he was taking everything in. And I knew he had a special eye on Anthie.”

“In a hidden room deep inside the base of the great clock there was a click, a whir of gears, a valve opened, and the key chamber was flooded with air. Several minutes later, Bella awoke. The girl coughed, choked then screamed as blood began to once again flow through her veins: the first time in a millennium.”

“Something growled near to her right. The hairs along Redyn’s arms stood up and she held her breath. The sound came again, deep, guttural. Redyn turned her head, her lips parted, her gaze scanning the forest. They’d told her not to wander far from the cottage, but they couldn’t have expected her to play with that hideous excuse for a doll near everyone else. A wolf crept out of the shadows, his gray fur standing on end like hers.”

"Three years ago, your father ruined my life. He terminated my family’s reputation.” “Um…” Amethyst wished she could back up further. Wind pushed at her top hat, so she shoved it up higher to straighten it. “I don’t understand.” “Now, I’ll ruin his life.”

Change of Plans - BEACON

The month of November didn't start off with a bang. It was more like a slow motion movie moment for the first few days that then shifted to normal speed.

I NaNoWriMo'd while also doing edits for BEACON, myYA urban fantasy dystopian. Throwing in the necessary work time, parenting time and occassions of trying to show our jittery cockatiel, Hawk, that we humans mean him no harm, made for some rather busy days. Of the things that suffered, because yeah, something had to give, NaNoWriMo took the biggest hit. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to add a NaNoWriMo winner badge to my blog, but I'm pretty thrilled with what I've gotten started.

I mentiond BEACON for another reason. I'm very pleased to share an exciting update. This was the cover for BEACON when I shared that Evernight Teen picked it up for publishing:
Here is the cover now:
I heart the precious!! *hugs laptop*
You might be asking what BEACON is about. I'm rather terrible when it comes to loglines. But I wanted to see if I could come up with something that could share what the story is about in a nutshell. So here's my - ahem - attempt:

*In a society where humans and vampeer (vampires) coexist, the gift of blood is the gift of peace.* When one teen tries to follow the blood rule, it brings unwanted attention from the authorities that forces her to face the explosive truths behind The Colony's facade in order to save her missing parents.

That's, sadly, the best I got right now. Maybe I can work on it more later. For now, please enjoy the cover and look for more updates soon :-)

What's new in your world?

In and Out, Out and In

For the month of November, I'll be a tad bit more sporadic. I'm doing NaNoWriMo, hoping I can make a little headway on the sequel to BEACON, my YA urban fantasy dystopian novel coming soon via Evernight Teen publishing.

So if you don't see me commenting or posting regularly, it's just because I'm doing one of a few things:

 - spilling tons of words into this first draft
 - banging my head against the wall because the words refuse to come to me
 - researching the sacred ceremony that will make it possible to have a 78k word novel write itself in the snap of a finger (if I have to go this route, oh dear, someone come find me and stop me lol!!)

So if you're NaNoing, than I wish you the best in accomplishing your goal.
If you're not NaNoing, than please send tons of happy, joy-joy, goodness into the universe. Some of us will sorely need it :-)
