Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams not make a person rich, but a person of monetary wealth could certainly have these things as part of their daily lives.

Every now and then, I step back and take stock of where I am in life's journey. For me, it's my own introspective Thanksgiving. Often, I find myself content that I'm not the "stuff" of a Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous episode. Perhaps it's because my version of splurging is going to the store and getting two packs of applewood bacon instead of one. Or I think I'm just spending willy nilly if I get the e-copy and paperback versions of a story.

What? Both? Yes, big baller lol!!

Along with re-affirming my appreciation for my simple struggle of a life:
 - a daughter who loves me and has yet to reach the stage of wanting to hang with her friends more than me
 - a dog that gives me a ticker tape parade of happy when I come home from work
 - a small but sound home that does a decent job of protecting us from the whimsies of wind, rain and scorching heat
 - breath of life

...I am grateful for my writing. Although my publications have not rendered me to a state of wealth where champagne is a daily reality, my daily reality is better because I've moved from dreamer to doer.

And that's what I'd like to encourage you to do today.

What is your version of "champagne wishes and caviar dreams?" What are you doing to move those ideas and concepts from dream to reality?

Here's a virtual treat to help fuel the body and mind :-)

Shine the Spotlight: Erzabet Bishop

The Science of Lust

One more carrot and someone is going to die.

When Grace Benedict takes a new job at an all-night lab, she knows it’s going to be a different kind of gig. What kind of lab is in the same building as a bondage club anyway? Sporting her new pencil skirt and heels, she’s raring to go otherwise its move back into her parents’ basement and that is so not going to happen. What she didn’t count on were the vampires.

Published by Evernight Publishing, this steamy indulgence is available at Evernight, Amazon, and ARe.

Enjoy the excerpt, and be sure to grab your copy :-)

“Where is this magic water?” Grace crossed her arms and raised her eyebrow, giving him a provocative look. “Better yet, let’s see it actually in practice. Work your fang boy mojo on me.” Grace wiggled her fingers and made a mocking Dracula cape motion. “Come on. I’ll be your devil’s advocate.”
“Are you sure about this? We had primarily wanted you as a liaison between the patients and the vampires. Someone to monitor their progress. We never intended you to be a participant, Grace.” He backed toward the counter and produced a small bottle of water that he handed over to her.
She snatched it out of his hands and stared at it. Just a nondescript 6oz. bottle of water. Inconspicuous label. No real markings. Interesting.
“You may want to sit while it takes effect.”
Grace rolled her eyes, unscrewed the cap and gulped it down. She had been thirstier than she thought and was eager to prove this was no more than a bunch of scientists playing on people’s insecurities. Fangs or not.
“Please sit, Grace. The chemicals tend to hit rather quickly.” He pushed her toward the stool and caught her as she began to weave on her feet.
“Hey. You drugged me!” Her head was muzzy. Her body began to heat up in some very interesting places. Her breasts felt heavy, the nipples hardening as the fabric of her bra rubbed against them. The endorphins flooded into her and her body began to pulse.
 Oh wow.
Waves of desire cascaded over her senses. As she watched the good doctor talking, all she could do was imagine what it would be like to unzip that tight pair of jeans and have at it. She closed her eyes at the mental image and shivered. The doctor was fucking hot.

Shine the Spotlight - Jessica Therrien's UPRISING

UPRISING (Children of the Gods #2) is AVAILABLE NOW!

Jessica Therrien follows up her best-selling novel OPPRESSION with UPRISING, the second book in the Children of the Gods series. OPPRESSION, translated and sold around the world, was one of the best-selling novels of 2012.

UPRISING continues the story of Elyse, William, and the Descendants. Elyse has been in hiding for most of her life. Only now she’s hiding with William, and she knows who she’s hiding from. The Council wants a child Elyse and William have yet to conceive, a child who will be the next oracle, and who will provide the final piece to a plan Christoph has been organizing for years.

Charged with leading the rebellion against Christoph and his Council, Elyse feels well out of her depth. But she has good friends and strong allies who are willing to fight with her to the end, regardless of how far they have to go, and how many lives will be lost in the process.

They have one goal: to live freely and openly with the rest of humanity, out from under the Council’s oppressive rule. The stakes could not be higher for Elyse and the Descendants longing for freedom. They’ll have to learn to fight if they want to stand up against the Council, and to find allies in a world ruled by their enemies. The hardest part of waging a war is knowing who to trust. Elyse knows their uprising will change the world. She doesn’t realize it will change her, too.

E-book $2.99 Paperback $12.99

Elyse knows what it means to keep a secret. She's been keeping secrets her whole life. Two, actually. First, that she ages five times slower than average people, so that while she looks eighteen years old, she's well over eighty. Second, that her blood has a mysterious power to heal.

For Elyse, these things don't make her special. They make life dangerous. After the death of her parents, she's been careful to keep her secret as closely guarded as possible. Now, only one other person in the world knows about her age and ability.

Or so she thinks.

Elyse is not the only one keeping secrets. There are others like her all over the world, descendants of the very people the Greeks considered gods. She is one of them, and they have been waiting for her for a long time. Some are waiting for her to put an end to centuries of traditions that have oppressed their people under the guise of safeguarding them. Others are determined to keep her from doing just that. But for Elyse, the game is just beginning-and she's not entirely willing to play by their rules.

IWSG - The Writing Life

First Wednesday of the month brings the opportunity to share in the wonderful world of IWSG. IWSG - Insecure Writers Support Group - is the brainchild of Ninja Captain Alex Cavanaugh and it has been very helpful in giving me an avenue, a channel, in seeing that I am not alone in my feelings of insecurity as an author. Click here to visit blogs where others are sharing good news, inspiration or perhaps purging something from their souls so they can feel better.

Seriously, IWSG rocks!

Right now, you can even get in on the IWSG Anthology Contest. Click here for details.

As for my IWSG post of today, it's pretty short. I'm in the middle of edits for DOBB. One truth about edits is that if you go into the process with your ego in hand, thinking it's about to get stroked, be prepared. It may be a good idea to have ego duct tape nearby. The second truth about edits is that, when handled with an open mind ready for improvement, stories become more solid, stronger. Not just good, but really good, even great.

What about you? How do you handle edits? Got any helpful tips to share in making the editing process more bearable for those of us who aren't so keen on edits?

Syn-sational Monday!

Yes, this delicious ice cream cake is a must. Please enjoy your fill as I share the news I hinted at in my last post.

Still licking chocolate from your fingers? That's fine. I'm so excited to share a few things that have happened in my writing life. Before that, let's take a very short journey recapping what 2015 has been like.

In January, I started strong, so strong in fact that I put together a Goals Poster and plastered that baby on my wall to encourage me everyday in making some very huge goals happen. I was stoked. Amp'd. Feeling fearless.

Then life happened. It does that sometimes, toss a monkey wrench into things and jack everything up.

My Goals Poster was nearly ripped down, but I kept it up, reminding myself that sometimes, goals need an adjustment. Mines ended up in an overhaul. There were moments where that poster seemed to smirk at me in mockery, aided by the procrastination that I couldn't shake, no matter how hard I tried.

But, yeah, that poster stayed. In the days, weeks, and months leading to summer, reading and doing the occasional prompt writing helped me turn that mockery into hope. And in the summer, hope moved to action. There was a lot of praying and being honest with myself while all of this was going on.
*Being honest that I love writing and sharing my stories too much to even consider the idea of quitting.
*Being honest that things may not always go my way, but that's okay.
*Being honest that any additional success I experience as a writer and author won't come from sitting on the sidelines and grumbling at the obstacles life has presented.
*Being honest that, even though I'm strong enough to deal with the challenges, it's a blessing to have family and friends I can lean on.

So after a summer of getting back into the groove of things, autumn brings wonderful change in the trees as well as my writing career.

Beacon, my YA urban fantasy dystopian published by Evernight Teen, is now available in print. You can get your copy via Createspace or Amazon.

#Pit2Pub 2015 was something I decided to participate in at the last minute. Dianne Salerni, fantastic author of The Eighth Day series, provided me with some excellent notes to improve my MG fairy tale mash up, FABLE RANGER: SUMMONS. After implementing the revisions into the story, I took a chance and hopped into the #Pit2Pub fray. I was happy with the interest shown, but was most happy with the response I received from the small press Dingbat Publishing. Now I'm part of the team. I look forward to sharing more as we progress along the publishing process :-)

For those of you interested, be sure to keep up with the #Pit2Pub 2016 haps by clicking here. And for any who enter, I wish you the very best.

Last, but certainly not least, there's movement on the Rayven Godchild front. I signed with Syn Publishing to release my erotic romance DEGREES OF BEING BOSS. This is one of those things that's been in the making for a while so I'm glad to reach this wonderful moment. Rayven Godchild also has an Amazon Author page. I would be ever so grateful if you clicked here to follow.

That's what's happening in my world. Please share in the comments what's going on in yours :-)
