Confessions of a Write-a-holic - Birth of a Novel

Guess who's baaaaaaaack?!?

It's a new year, new chances...a new slate.

How I crave your dark caffeinated tastiness
2011, I jumped into the blogosphere and I took to it like I took to Wild Cherry Pepsi.  It became an addiction (If I ever refer to crack, cherry Pepsi's what I'm talking about).  Unlike the soda, which adds calories to my 'jolly' waistline, my blog addiction adds to my knowledge of writing craft and knowing I'm not alone in this struggle to publish my stories.

2012, I hope to show more support to new and established authors, share more of my journey and hope that my blog is a place where you can pull up a comfy chair, grab a cup of lemonade sweetened to your taste and enjoy whatever rant, tirade or diamond-in-the-rough I ramble on about.  That includes those interesting conversations Me, Myself and I tend to have.

So to get things started, I'd like to share my progress.  I've been a bit busier spending time with Chipmunk and reading.  That little girl is having way too much fun with her Nerf guns.  I did make gain with SEAMLESS.
Current word count - 29,500
UNCOMMON and AMONG DRAGONS AND MEN are still waiting patiently in the wings.

With the new year, there's often a list of resolutions.  I'm not very good at those actually.  I've learned I'm better making a small goal here and there that makes for a great big goal being met.  However, there is one resolution I'd like to really try hard at:

Work on better balancing my blog, my writing and my life (kiddo, work, exercise) so that I can tame the write-a-holic in me.

With this new year, got any new things, ideas, goals or news to share?

It could be argued that balance is the best resolution of all.

I hope 2012 is your year, Angela.

I believe in balance, although with blogging it wavers towards the edge.
And who wouldn't have fun with Nerf guns?

Can't believe you jumped into blogging only this year. I want to work on the balance thing more this year too.

Balance is a worthy goal and something I still struggle with. If you find any magic pills for it, please share! :)

Balance is good. If you figure out how to manage that, it would make a great blog post.

Happy New Year.

Those sound like excellent resolutions. Best wishes to keeping all of them.

Maria - Thanks so much. I'm not sure how to go about finding the best balance for me, but I sure plan on trying.

Alex - LOL!! Yeah, I admit having a little fun too, though I see Chipmunk having a future as a cop if she keeps this up...which I'd be proud of :-)

Natalie - Yeah, only this year. I've had a chance to learn from other fantastic bloggers along the way. Working toward balance will be...hmmm...interesting.

Charity - I with there was a magic pill :-) I'd share it with the world.

LD - That is a great idea. Will have to do that, whatever happens :-)

Randy - I'm going to try.

Cynthia - 2011 gave me some great things to be excited about so I'm very happy to embrace the possibilities for 2012.

Sounds like you've got a lot of writing work for this year.

Me, I want to finish my book once and for all so that I can send it out. :-D

I like your sense of commitment. Hope you have a wonderful year.

Angela Brown said...

Misha - I've got a lot of writing for sure, but I want to do more reading this year as well. I grew my TBR list. Now it's time to attack it.

I wish you the best of luck. I know you'll get that novel out.

Barbara - Thank you so much. I look forward to 2012 being a great year.

Great goals to have! Good luck with your writing, and I'm glad you're going to spend time with your kid :D.

Hurray for your word count! I hit 23k on my WIP over Christmas break, so I'm pretty pleased with that!

Balance is a good goal to have. I tend to get obsessed about writing and forget to read a good book, watch some television ... do the laundry ... vacuum ... wash the dishes ...

But hey, that's what teenagers are for, right? ;)

Angela Brown said...

Susanna - Thanks! Best of luck with all of your endeavors for 2012 as well.

Giles - Yeah, I had a hard balancing things during last year but I want to do much better this year, especially with my kiddo.

Dianne - Being a write-a-holic can have its impact on a lot of things. And yes, teenagers are good for taking on those chores :-)

"Work on better balancing my blog, my writing and my life (kiddo, work, exercise) so that I can tame the write-a-holic in me."

Wow! Is that all? I know you can do it, but I'm doing good just to blog a little and write a little :)

M Pax said...

Best with the goals you set. Mine might be over ambitious, but I'll give it my best shot.

Yea on making progress on your word count. That's great news. Happy 2012!

Angela Brown said...

Catherine - LOL! Yeah, It's a lofty goal. I'm going to try my best to find my nice little balance.

M Pax - Ambitious goals make for great results. I with you all the best in reaching your goals.

Jocelyn Rish said...

Hee - 'jolly' waistline, I have one of those too. :-) I'm also still trying to find the balance, but I tend to be more unbalanced on the side of watching TV and goofing off rather than writing. So here's to us both finding the right balance in 2012!

Angela Brown said...

Jocelyn, I've been a little unbalanced during this holiday break, but as I work towards finding a balance, well, I guess we'll just see what happens.

Shelley Munro said...

Balance is good. It's the finding it that is difficult.
What on earth is a nerf gun?

You're making steady progress. That's excellent. :)

Sounds like you have a great plan in mind. Blogging is not the easiest to squeeze in when you are so busy. Good luck with the writing.

Great thoughts, Angela. You've built a great blog. I can't believe you are blogging AND writing a novel!!!

Your encouraging words on my blog made my January 2. I'm pumped about getting my dang manuscript done.

Best wishes for a productive year.

Susan Kaye Quinn said...

I'm a write-a-holic too. Trust me, this is a good thing, as long as you can tame it and not let it take over too much of your life. But it's a much better problem to have than the opposite! ;)

Best of luck to you and your writing in 2012!
