Goals + Hurdles = Girdles

I'd like to imagine my trek along this writing path is one that is as beautiful as this racing horse, long form stretched perfectly over a hurdle, aiming to reach a goal of victory.

Except, here's my reality:

The one in the yellow-gold-dress-looking-thing, head tilted as if about to fall (I think that's Washington lol!!!) - yeah, that's more along the lines of what things feel like for me.  But, at least there's a lot of laughter :-)

I've got some goals set for March 2012 and with some work, I hope to achieve them.  Each month, I've gotten a bit more aggressive, re-evaluating and adjusting as needed.  So far, I've mainly upped the ante with my goals.  But I like having the ability to adjust down a bit if needed.

Name: Angela L Brown
Twitter: @neostateofmind
Goals for March 2012:
1: Complete revision of MINGLED and get it to beta readers
2: Post 3 blogs a week
3: Read 3 books
4: Comment to other blogs, at least 20 to 25 a week.
5. Participate in A Picture Paints 1000 Words blogfest at Unicorn Bell
6. Get at lest 14 of my A to Z blogging challenge blogs scheduled.

As a reminder, Insecure Writer's Support Group is the first Wednesday of the month so it's sneaking up on us quick, fast and in a hurry.  Should be this Wednesday, I believe.  Someone do correct me please if I'm looking at this wrong :-)  Whether you'll be participating or not, is there something in particular you'd like to improve, maybe drink more water, eat fewer doughnuts, drive the car in purposeless circles a few less times a week?

LOL! Oh man, I think we've all felt like George Washington there at some point in our lives.

It is this Wednesday!
And hey, at least you're in the lead in the second race.

The one goal I expected to see wasn't there.

While your edited book is with betas, what are your plans for your next book?

Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Cristina said...

ha, love that second picture. You can do it Angela!!!!

Angela Brown said...

Oh yeah. His haphazard running style speaks volumes. But I'd like to think that if he falls, someone will help him get back up lol!!

Angela Brown said...

Oh good, Alex. Thank you. Got to make sure to get my post ready.

LOL!! Well, in the lead, true. And not doing it gracefully from the looks of things.

Angela Brown said...

Alas, I haven't got MINGLED to betas yet. I was hoping to make that happen this week. Not sure if that will happen but Lord knows I will give it my best shot. Meaning, there will be no Moscato involved at all.

UNCOMMON is the next book I want to work on. I didn't list it for March because, honestly, I'm a little shy about this one. This is the one I've gone back and forth in my mind about self-pubbing. It has vampires, a demigod and includes a tiny bit of Indian (not Native American) mythos. I want it to be a part of a whole series of novels for my NEO chronicles. I just have so many things going on in my mind about it.

Sorry for the rambling answer lol!!!

Angela Brown said...

LOL!! Thanks Cristina. That picture was so hilarious and spot on :-)

Sounds like awesome goals. I'm always amazed at how much you accomplish given your hectic life.

Jennifer Pickrell said...

Yay, I cracked up at the Presidents Race pic - it's a running joke (in the DC-area, at least) about how they never let poor Teddy Roosevelt win.

Good luck with your goals!!

Angelina Rain said...

That picture looks how I feel too. Those are some very good goals. I wish you the best of luck with them.

Rebekah Loper said...

hehe, that second picture is hilarious!

I'm with you on the A-Z challenge posts, thougIh. I have one written, and that's only because April 1st overlaps with my regular weekly devotionals. We can do this!

Emily R. King said...

Your goals are so inspiring! I should do this, too. Maybe I'd actually get something done instead of just thinking about it.

Angela Brown said...

LOL!! Thanks, Natalie. I've got a few hours back now that basketball season is over. Of course, that means I'll be reading, writing, blogging or doing something more lol!!!

Angela Brown said...

Thanks, Jennifer. That was such a funny pic. And so appropriate.

Angela Brown said...

Thanks, Angelina. I'm going to do my best.

Angela Brown said...

Alright, Rebekah. Let's make it happen!!

Angela Brown said...

I wasn't setting goals at first, just going along and doing what I could. But since I've been setting these monthly goals, it's been very helpful and been great for keeping me accountable.

Angela Cothran said...

You're so good to have goals :) My brain wasn't working this morning I thought you wrote "Goats" LOL! I need a rest already this morning.

David P. King said...

Those are some ambitious goals. I made some for this week, too. And you're going to reach them. I have no doubt. :)

Angela Brown said...

LOL!! Okay, Angela. I suppose goats would be a baa aaa aaad idea. Or maybe not.

Angela Brown said...

Thanks, David. Going to give it all I've got.

Raelyn Barclay said...

LOL, we've all been that second picture. Great goals for the month and I wish you all the best with them!

I'd like to start the steps to a college career. I'm hoping to be a better student than I once was.

Randy said...

Goals are good. The best of wishes for you to attain them. Love the pic. That is definately the sort of race I run, except I would probably be on the ground floundering to get up. ;)

Angela Brown said...

Thanks, Raelyn. Day by day, we'll see what happens :-)

Angela Brown said...

That sounds like a wonderful plan. I wish you the best as you pursue this.

Angela Brown said...

LOL! You and me both would probably be on the ground.

Ann Cory said...

Those are some fantastic goals - and I'm over here cheering you on to get those puppies done! Absolutely loved that picture - your wit and enthusiasm is very contagious. Wishing you a success filled week!!

Avery Marsh said...

Well, at least you're in the front of the pack. I feel like poor old Abraham Lincoln back there, bringing up the rear. ;) Those are great goals. I'm rooting for you! :)

Matthew MacNish said...

Ah crap. You just reminded me I have to work on my A to Zs.

Charlie Holmberg said...

And the girdle part comes in after you submit, and each day not hearing back is another tug on those strings...

Anyway, good luck with the goals! You can do it!

Angela Brown said...

Thanks, Ann. Glad you enjoyed!

Angela Brown said...

LOL!!! Poor Abe, stuck in the back of the pack. I appreciate all the encouragement very much.

Heather said...

The first picture is beautiful but the second is so much more fun. I must admit, most of the time that's how I feel!

Angela Brown said...

Yep. Got to get an early start or April's going to be like a double-girdled month.

Angela Brown said...

You got it right, Charlie. Thank you. Going to do my best.

Angela Brown said...

I loved that first picture. All I could do was briefly envy that horse for it's beauty.

Then came reality lol!!!!

Let's see. My goal for March -- as well as a great topic for "Insecure Writers" -- would be to send my revised manuscript back to my editor with CONFIDENCE and JOY this month.

Not hover over the send button for hours, take a shot of whisky, finally hit send, and then fling myself facedown on the floor in a paroxysm of terror, moaning, "oh my gosh, she's going to hate it ..."

Clarissa Draper said...

Wow, those are some amazing goals for this month. I hope you do well with them.

Peggy Eddleman said...

Hahahaha! LOVE the visuals! And those are some pretty awesome goals. Best of luck with all of them!

M Pax said...

lol That image of you as Washington is funny. Best on your goals this month, Angela.

Yes, this wednesday is IWSG.

Beth Stilborn said...

You can do it, Angela!

First, the pics are hilarious! I love that second one. And second, I think your goals are totally doable. You can totally get that done. And when you do you're going to feel like a rockstar!

Alleged Author said...

I am definitely with you on pic #2. I'm the one way in the back. Much luck on your goals (but I know you don't need it because you will accomplish everything!). :)

PJ Hoover said...

Your goals are awesome! I used to be much better about writing down my goals, but I've gotten away from it. Thanks for the nudge!

Angela Brown said...

Oh yeah, that second paragraph could so be me, and that's just at the thought of sending my MS off to beta readers. Man, I've got to get these revisions done. And instead of a shot of whiskey, make mine a glass or three of Moscato :-)

Angela Brown said...

Thanks Clarissa. Now that I've put them out there, I want to make sure to keep myself accountable.

Angela Brown said...

Thanks Peggy. Setting the goals has been pretty helpful in moving forward on this publication path.

Angela Brown said...

Got my IWSG post in the works. Trying to be proactive. And yeah, that pic of the racing prez heads is too on point and funny.

Angela Brown said...

Thanks, Beth. I'll do my best.

Angela Brown said...

You know, Erin, you're right. There is a since of accomplishment when goals are truly accomplished. I'm going to give this goal a lot of effort.

Angela Brown said...

You give me extra encouragement with your words, all of you wonderful writer lovelies are just wonderful. This is the plus to posting goals, having others to motivate you to do your best.

Angela Brown said...

Doing these monthly goals has really helped me. if it can help someone else, than the better for it.

Chantele Sedgwick said...

Good luck with your goals!! And that picture is hilarious!! :D

Angela Brown said...

Thanks, Chantele. That second picture has been giving me the giggles every time I see it :-)

Angela Orlowski-Peart said...

Youd plate is full and the list of goals very impressive. You inspire me every time I stop by to read your blog. And this time you inspired me to revise my goal list! I finally understand what I have to do now. Thank you, Angela!

Angela Orlowski-Peart said...

And obviously I meant "your", not "youd" :-)

Angela Brown said...

I got you, Angela :-)

And you are welcome. I'm not sure what I did but WOOT! If it helped you out in anyway, I'm stoked. :-)

Eileen Rhoadarmer said...

What good's a race if it isn't fun? Because really, who are you racing against anyway?

Drinking more water helped me shed the rest of the baby pounds. I highly recommend drinking more water.

Good luck with your goals!

Tara Tyler said...

yep, lots to do!
and i forgot to mention wed! i better get on it! it's tomorow!

Angela Brown said...

You're right, Eileen. Because in the race, it's me and the hurdles I have to work through...rather clumsily in the process, but yeah. That's the gist of things.

Thanks for the water tip. I'm working on increasing my water intake each day as well.

Angela Brown said...

What's that saying, "so much to do, so little time" That's like the everyday norm of life lol!!!!

Barbara Ann Wright said...

Go, Angela! Everyone's cheering for you!

Angela Brown said...

Thanks, Barbara. Such an encouraging group of folks to be a part of. Makes my heart pitter patter.
