Something Like Normal

I'm not quite sure what normal is anymore.

Before 2012, normal was...
...getting my kid ready for school
...drop her off
...go to work
...complain for half the day
...get complained at by customers for the other half of the day
...pick my kid up from her after school program homework and read with my kiddo
...then go to bed.

2012 - the beginning of 2015 was all of that plus...
...blogging 2- 3 times a week
...hopping on various social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest to post, share posts, like posts, network multiple times through the day everyday
...more networking on LinkedIn and other outlets that I wasn't sure why I was hopping on them anymore research attempts tours
...building newsletter lists
...sending newsletters while trying to not be spammy
...and writing, writing, more writing.

Somewhere in there was the occasional sleeping moment.

No regrets from any of it given I gained a whirlwind of knowledge, friends, and had some really awesome times doggone it!

So now that I've taken my hiatus, I've stepped back to breathe for a bit, I'm ready to set my new normal. I don't have anything solid yet.

No specific goals like a certain word count per day.

No demand on myself to produce XYZ product or item. I have plenty of deadline demands with my day gig.

Actually, here is my goal for each day:
Be like Happy Kitty!

Oh, and you'll notice I made a little change to the layout of my blog. I really liked what I had before. Just trying something new. In case you are interested in trying something new with your blog, I'd suggest Heather McCorkle. I've had a very good experience working with her. In fact, she designed my Shadow Jumpers and NEO Chronicles books, both the older and new versions.

Since we've got more than one toe into the new year, have you had a chance to set a schedule? What is your normal like?

It's mostly the same, except more IWSG stuff. And I need to include writing in there somewhere.
Like the new layout.

I like the softer palette of the blog, but I think your old one was easier to read--at least for these old eyes.

re: complaints
One of my first jobs was at an actual complaint department for a newspaper. I was on the phone for 8 hours a day with people constantly complaining and sometimes cussing me.

Most of my coworkers didn't last at that job long because it was so demoralizing.

I looked at it differently though. I put myself in the customer's shoes and immediately started to sympathize with them as soon as they told me their complaint.

Almost like magic, people stopped cussing and yelling at me. I learned that the only thing people really want is someone to listen to them--someone who will try to help.

I was pretty young, but that lesson stuck with me all my life.

Ironically, I did so well, they promoted me off the phones. Not their best decision business-wise, but at least I got a raise.

I like the new look of your blog. My life is literally completely different than it was this time in 2013 or 2014. I'm trying to figure out what normal is too.

I noticed your new layout right away. It's awesome! I don't have a set schedule yet this year. Still just getting situated and thinking about everything that needs to be done this year. But I'm not going to pressure myself except about that secret project. LOL. You got this, Angela!

I'm constantly trying to figure out the balance. I wish I had another weight loss or to become an exercise, LOL.

I suppose being like the happy kitty would be a good goal. Honestly, when I was doing it for fun, I worked harder and got more done. Ever since I turned it into a job, I've been a slacker.
